The survival horror genre has been through a lot of ups and downs over the years, and while Resident Evil is one of the last major survival horror franchises left standing, new survival horror titles are continuing to emerge. One of these new games is Happy's Humble Burger Farm, a first-person adventure/horror/cooking game that combines restaurant management with enough gore, tension, and horrifying monsters to make Resident Evil proud.

Happy's Humble Burger Farm began life as a small indie game known as Happy's Humble Burger Barn that was released for free on itch.io. The game placed its players in the shoes of a new employee at the titular restaurant and demanded they complete customer orders quickly and without making mistakes, or a monstrous version of the restaurant's bipedal cow mascot would hunt them down in classic survival horror style.

Now, a full sequel game is being published by tinyBuild, publisher of the Hello Neighbor games. The new Happy's Humble Burger Farm game will build on the original's PS1-style graphics, ominous design sensibilities, and completely impossible demands to create a more fleshed-out horror experience. A new cinematic teaser trailer showcases what players can expect from this series: a superficially happy atmosphere, oceans of blood and guts, glitches in reality, increasingly nightmarish mascots that are definitely out to harm the player, and lots and lots of hamburgers.

While some fans looked at the trailer and immediately spotted parallels to the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise, the focus on visceral gore and unnatural movements may evoke memories of Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and other classic survival horror titles. Rather than being stationary and trying to hold out against evil, Happy's Humble Burger Farm requires the player to move around quickly while trying to accomplish increasingly impossible tasks, bringing in the stress of a management simulator to the already potent survival horror formula.

As of this writing, several fans of the original free game have commented on the trailer describing their experiences with it and looking forward to the full release, with one user even noting they couldn't eat beef for a while after playing. Another user appeared to be impressed that this little indie game was coming to the big leagues with a professional release. 2021 has been a good year for horror games, so fans of the genre may look forward to seeing more of Happy's Humble Burger Farm when its release date is officially announced.

Happy's Humble Burger Farm will launch in Q4 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
