The Halo franchise is one of the most important in video games today, helping to cement the place of first-person shooters on consoles as well as propelling online console multiplayer into the mainstream, all the while delivering phenomenal gaming experiences. It's no surprise, then, that fans of Halo have been creating home-made content from the games for years. The most recent example showcased really takes the cake, however, as it's a real world version of the franchise's iconic Warthog vehicle.

A friend of the Warthog's creator took to Reddit to share about this incredible project, complete with images of the truly impressive work. Apparently, after meeting while playing Halo 3, this friend said that he was going to make a working version of the Warthog in real life. Seven years later, and after a lot of work the Warthog is almost complete, and looks absolutely fantastic.

The vehicle is apparently one week from being legal for road use, with functioning lights, airbags, and seatbelts, and only the emissions test left to be completed. The Warthog is a hybrid of various Chevy truck components, as well as a lot of 3D printed accessories to make it look the part. Considering that the creator had little mechanical experience prior to this project, it's a hugely impressive feat.

The Warthog is one of the most recognizable parts of the Halo franchise due to its versatility as a vehicle and its design, so much so that it has even branched out into other games with time. For instance, the Warthog has even appeared in the Forza series, most recently with the Halo 5 version of the Warthog being made available as one of the vehicles in Forza Horizon 3.

Unfortunately, it might be a little while before gamers get a look at the next game in the Halo franchise. Halo 6 is apparently being developed, but unfortunately there is unlikely to be a reveal at Gamescom or PAX this year. Recently, 343 Industries gave an update on Halo 6, stating that the project is going well, but that the team is not ready to reveal anything just yet.

With that in mind, there's still plenty of time for the creator of this Warthog to build some accompanying items for it. For starters, a set of real world Halo Master Chief MJOLNIR armor would go down a treat for driving around in an actual Warthog.
