Paramount Plus has just offered the first official look at the much-awaited live-action Halo series that is expected to premiere in 2022. The 27-second-long teaser trailer was shared by the streaming service on its social media channels, to mark the 20th anniversary of Xbox and the iconic Halo franchise.

The Halo series teaser trailer was first officially unveiled at Xbox’s 20th-anniversary event on Monday. However, it seems like some keen-eyed fans of the franchise caught on to a potential leak prior to the event. Some Facebook users reported to have seen the trailer on the social media platform’s advertisements, and they are assuming that it was unintentionally released earlier than planned.

The Halo teaser consists of a series of close-up shots, mostly engulfed in darkness and mystery. Viewers see glimpses of Master Chief's iconic Mjolnir armor, including his gloves, the 117 insignia on his suit, and the helmet. Towards the end of the trailer, Cortana, an artificial intelligence construct, is heard saying, “Hello, Master Chief.” The trailer then cuts off to reveal that the series will premiere in 2022, a fact that fans are already aware of.

In the Halo games franchise, Master Chief is one of the few main playable characters, as a Spartan commando of the UNSC Naval Special Warfare Command. He is the protagonist in the Halo trilogy and Reclaimer Saga and is known to have received several medals for his service. He will be the main protagonist of the Halo live-action series and is at the center of the teaser trailer.

The series has cast Pablo Schreiber, from American Gods fame, as Master Chief and Cortana will be voiced by Jen Taylor, who is reprising her role from the Halo games. Apart from the two, Natascha McElhone will appear as Dr. Catherine Halsey, another important character from the games. Talks of a live-action adaptation for Halo have been ongoing for several years, with the idea of producing a film being raised after the success of the first game Halo: Combat Evolved, which was released on November 15, 2001. However, it is only now that a live-action series is finally taking shape.

The Halo franchise consists of a total of 14 first-person shooter games. Combat Evolved was one of the first few original games released along with the Xbox. The franchise is among the list of most successful and popular video game franchises ever made.

It is considered to be Xbox’s flagship franchise, with over 80 million copies of Halo games sold since the launch of the first entry in 2001. The games have a large multiplayer fanbase, considering it allows cross-platform play between Xbox and PC players.

Halo is currently under production and is expected to premiere in 2022 on Paramount Plus.
