It has been confirmed that Halo Infinite won't be released until 2021, which disappointed many fans who were expecting the game to launch this year. Moreover, much of the game's story remains a mystery, but it appears that players can get a glimpse of Halo Infinite's narrative, long before its release sometime next year.

This window into Halo Infinite's story will be through the new book called Halo: Shadows of Reach, which is scheduled to release on October 20th and is said to provide some "connective tissues" that will link it to the upcoming game. According to the book's author, Troy Denning, he was interested in joining the project right from the get-go given that the new book will "whet the appetite" for Halo Infinite. The author also shared that when he was asked to write the book, the main requirement given to him is that it should be a Blue Team novel that contains connective tissues that explore Master Chief's role in Halo Infinite.

Additionally, Denning also teased that Shadows of Reach will give players a taste of certain plot points that Halo Infinite will fully realize. "Oftentimes, this can mean that certain elements I'm writing in my manuscript are brought to life in parallel with ones being developed for Halo Infinite's story and gameplay," the author explained. Interestingly enough, Halo franchise lead editor Jeremy Patenaude shared in an interview that readers of Shadows of Reach should expect to be introduced to the Banished, an enemy that serves as the main threat in Halo Infinite.

Microsoft reminded players that while Shadows of Reach has connections to Halo Infinite's plot, reading the book is not required for players to understand and enjoy the upcoming game's narrative. However, those who were disappointed with Halo Infinite's delay to 2021 should definitely check out Shadows of Reach, given that it will allow them to get a glimpse of what to expect from the story of Infinite once it's released sometime in next year.

Meanwhile, rumors swirled this past summer that Halo Infinite would be releasing its campaign and multiplayer separately. However, shortly after the rumors surfaced, 343 Industries denied the claims, and now, Xbox Head Phil Spencer said that it might be something "to think about." In a recent interview with Kotaku, Spencer stressed that while releasing Halo Infinite's campaign and multiplayer separately should be considered, the final decision lies with 343's Bonnie Ross and her team.

Halo Infinite is in development for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
