Microsoft reveals 16 new Xbox 360 games that are now playable on Xbox One, which includes the likes of Fable 3, Halo: Reach, Portal: Still Alive, and more.

One of the biggest announcements at E3 2015 was Microsoft's surprise that the Xbox One would become backward compatible with Xbox 360. Microsoft has promised to add more games to the backward compatibility list every month, and now December's games have been revealed.

Playable on Xbox One as of today, Microsoft has made 16 new Xbox 360 games backward compatible. There are some major first-party Xbox games on the list, as well as some big third-party releases as well. Overall, it's hard to complain about what Microsoft is bringing to the table in December.

Perhaps the most significant 360 game now playable on Xbox One is Halo: Reach. With its addition to the BC list, every single Halo FPS game is now playable in some manner on the Xbox One. Gamers are able to access the first four Halo games as well as ODST through the Master Chief Collection, and Halo 5 released a couple of months back. Halo: Reach was the only game missing from the equation, but thankfully that is now no longer the case.

Here's all 16 games that have been added to the backward compatibility list:

  • Braid
  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution
  • Doritos Crash Course
  • Fable 3
  • Halo: Reach
  • Hydro Thunder
  • Iron Brigade
  • Kane & Lynch 2
  • Motocross Madness
  • Ms. Pac-Man
  • Peggle
  • Portal: Still Alive
  • Spelunky
  • 'Splosion Man
  • Ticket to Ride
  • Zuma's Revenge

Few expected Microsoft to match the 104 Xbox 360 games that the service launched with, but overall, December's selections are pretty impressive. Most of these 16 games released to critical acclaim, such as Braid, Deus Ex, and Portal, and even though some of them were not well-received, it's still nice to have them playable on Xbox One through backward compatibility.

With such a large and growing selection of Xbox 360 games now playable on Xbox One, hopefully Microsoft is able to add 360 games to the Xbox One marketplace soon. Gamers can still purchase these 360 games through the Xbox Live Marketplace website and on Xbox 360 systems, but it would be much more convenient to simply be able to purchase them directly on the Xbox One.

At any rate, it's good to see Microsoft keep to their promise of adding new games to the backward compatibility service every month. So far, there's a lot of significant titles now playable on Xbox One through the service, allowing 360 owners to take full advantage of the collection they amassed last generation. The additions to the BC list today are all mostly great games, even though we weren't able to cross any games off our backward compatibility wishlist. There's still a lot of high quality Xbox 360 games left, and here's hoping January's games are even better than December's.

The aforementioned Xbox 360 games can now all be played on the Xbox One as of today.
