Developer 343 Industries has kicked off its first “flight” for Halo: The Master Chief Collection on PC, starting with a small taste of Halo: Reach on the platform. The Halo Reach beta test will last until July 1st, but keep in mind that only a small group of players have been selected to participate in the flight.

In a lengthy blog post on Halo Waypoint, 343 Industries explains both the nature of the Halo: Reach flight and what the development team’s goals are with it. As far as content is concerned, this is the same build that was available at E3 2019 earlier this year, and features the “Tip of the Spear” mission from Halo: Reach.

It might not seem like a lot of content for a beta test, but 343 explains that the goal of this first flight is to put a build onto a variety of machines and see how it runs. The team also wants to get feedback on mouse and keyboard “feel” and to “validate the process and pipelines to get a build out to Insiders on Steam at a larger scale.” In other words, this initial flight is meant to ensure that the basics are working before a lot more Halo fans get their hands on the build.

Currently, less than 1,000 players have access to the Halo: Reach PC flight as part of the Halo Insider program. 343 Industries explains that it had a large influx of subscribers to the program, but unfortunately, they could only accommodate 1,000 or so for this first beta test. Any who are part of the test should have received two e-mails: an invite to the Halo: Reach PC flight and a Steam key for the test.

The good news is that even if you didn’t get selected for the Halo: Reach PC flight, there are plans for many more tests in the future, and not just on PC. Xbox One players will also get a chance to Halo: Reach as part of the Master Chief Collection, and PC players will eventually get to try out all of the Halo games included with the set.

For now, though, the focus is just on the basics with Halo: Reach and then the testing will expand from there. But, if you’re curious to see the game in action on PC, there is no embargo on streaming or capture.
