One of the biggest draws of the Xbox Series X is the console's backward compatibility with original Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One games, giving players instant access to a massive library of titles. However, there are certain older games that will be getting updates to better take advantage of the Xbox Series X's next-generation capabilities. It's now been confirmed that Halo: The Master Chief Collection is one such game, with the upgraded version launching just one week after the Series X itself, on November 17.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Xbox Series X will support 120 frames per second for the various campaigns as well as the multiplayer modes for each game in the collection. Microsoft has also teased "split-screen improvements" and the ability to display Halo: The Master Chief Collection "up to" 4K resolution on the Series X. Better yet, those that already own Halo: The Master Chief Collection can upgrade to the Series X version for free, plus it will be available through Game Pass starting November 17.

Of course, thanks to the Xbox Series X's backward compatibility with Xbox One games, it will still be possible to play all of the games in Halo: The Master Chief Collection come the console's launch on November 10. Halo: The Master Chief Collection is also available through Xbox Game Pass, and so subscribers can check it out while they wait for the upgraded version to drop later in the month.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection could be a decent way for Xbox Series X owners to tide themselves over while they wait for more news on Halo Infinite. Originally set to be the Xbox Series X's flagship launch title, Halo Infinite has been delayed to 2021, and there haven't been many updates on the game since that announcement. While fans were able to get a look at Halo Infinite's campaign, its other game modes, like Forge and multiplayer, remain a mystery.

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has suggested that it's possible that Halo Infinite will release in parts, with the campaign or multiplayer released first if one of the modes finishes development before the other. However, 343 Industries has pushed back against that idea in the past, and so for now, Xbox fans can expect Halo Infinite to launch as a complete package, whenever it does finally hit store shelves.

In the meantime, Halo: The Master Chief Collection isn't the only Xbox One game being optimized for Xbox Series X. Xbox Series X versions of first-party Xbox games like Forza Horizon 4 and Gears 5 will also be available, with those titles launching alongside the Xbox Series X on November 10. And just like Halo: The Master Chief Collection, those titles will also be available to those that already own the games on Xbox One, or those that are subscribed to Xbox Game Pass.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is out now for PC and Xbox One, with an Xbox Series X version launching on November 17.
