Microsoft kicked off the latest Inside Xbox livestream with two big announcements: Halo: The Master Chief Collection is coming to PC, and will be adding the prequel Halo: Reach. The long-rumored PC version of Halo: The Master Chief Collection is being custom made for the platform, rather than being delivered as a straight port of the Xbox One version of the game.

As a result, Microsoft won't release Halo: The Master Chief Collection all at once, but is opting to release one game at a time on PC. This is due in large part to the depth of the project, ensuring each game is brought to its full potential on PC. To do this, Microsoft is partnering with other development studios including Ruffian Games and Splash Damage. Of course, there's the added perk of giving each of the six Halo games in the bundle its own time in the spotlight and opportunity for multiplayer to flourish.

The Halo: MCC roll-out on PC will start with Halo: Reach. Both the game's story mode and multiplayer will be released consequently on PC, though with the PC's new custom browser, players can choose to download either mode from any given game and none of the rest.

Halo: Reach will also be coming to Xbox One but its story and multiplayer will be released separately once each mode is finished. Halo: Reach will, of course, be included with the full package via Game Pass.

Finally, there's one other interesting detail regarding the Halo: The Master Chief Collection release on PC worth noting. Not only will it be available via the Microsoft Store like most Microsoft first-party PC titles, but it will also be released on Steam. Halo Steam players will be required to have an Xbox account, but otherwise will be able to experience the package in its entirety as normal.

The Halo: MCC PC announcement has been something that Microsoft has been working on for quite a long time now, as has the addition of Halo: Reach to the bundle. It sounds like Microsoft and Xbox want these future plans to be everything fans need from the franchise, especially with it likely setting expectations for the upcoming Halo: Infinite. Of course, players will ultimately be the judge of whether Microsoft has delivered on those expectations.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is available now on Xbox One and will be coming to PC later this year. Halo: Reach will join The Master Chief Collection on Xbox One will start the PC version of The Master Chief Collection's roll-out later this year.
