Even though Halo Infinite is getting the most media attention nowadays, Halo: The Master Chief Collection still benefits from substantial content updates, patches, and the like. The latest such update has just come out, and players looking to get back into classic Halo have got much to look forward to.

Namely, the long-awaited April content update for Halo: The Master Chief Collection is now out. And though its main focus is squarely on Firefight improvements and adding the Flood to the popular co-op game mode, there's much more to it than just that. The list of additions is unexpectedly long, introducing hefty improvements to an already sizable package.

While the release of Flood-themed content in Halo: Master Chief Collection's Firefight mode was teased a few days back, it may still seem a bit strange to see 343 Industries updating what is, effectively, an eight-year-old game to such an extent. Aside from "Floodfight," MCC now also offers experimental co-op multiplayer for Halo 3 and ODST, adding to these titles' replayability. Halo 4, too, gets the special "Campaign Customization" option allowing players to see weapon skins in solo play.

Veteran players, in particular, may be thrilled to hear that Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo: ODST all got entirely new skulls added to their respective campaign modes, 16 of them in total. These are generally similar to Halo Infinite's Skulls and their effects and add another reason for players to revisit their classic campaign experiences. Generally, the update is rather sizable and ranges from 11 GB on Steam to 26.5 GB via the Microsoft Store App, with Xbox consoles sitting at around 20 GB.

All of the above is available at no additional cost, short of actually owning the licenses for specific Halo games within MCC. The content drop is underlined even further by the fact that 343 is also now celebrating Halo's 20th anniversary with dedicated multiplayer cosmetics and the like. In effect, Halo: MCC fans have every reason to look back at the game and get some more playtime in now that there's new content coming out at such a rapid pace.

On a related note, rumors suggest that another Xbox franchise could get the Master Chief Collection treatment in 2022, though it's not yet clear which. In more ways than one, MCC is the ultimate way to experience classic Halo content, and seeing another major franchise remastered and re-released in such a way could be a huge boon for its community.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is now available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
