Thursday's Inside Xbox event was filled with big third-party announcements for the Xbox Series X. But Xbox fans may have been distracted from one of the Xbox team's first announcement of the event. To start the show, Xbox Game Studios boss Matt Booty told fans when they can expect to see Halo Infinite gameplay. It's not today, or even this month, but Halo Infinite gameplay is on the way and its launch in 2020 is becoming all the more real.

According to Booty, Halo fans will be given their first taste of Halo Infinite gameplay in July. Today's Inside Xbox event focused entirely on third-party releases that will be optimized for Xbox Series X. June will continue focusing on third-party titles, along with an Xbox platform and services event. July is the month the Xbox fans will most be looking forward to, though. July will see the debut of many Xbox Game Studios titles, including Halo Infinite's gameplay.

It's a been a very long wait for Halo Infinite gameplay. 343 Industries first showed Halo Infinite in 2018 during E3. The in-engine demo wasn't gameplay, but for fans anxious to see what was the next major Halo game looked like, it was close. For E3 in 2019, 343 Industries had another in-engine demo. It was yet again precariously close to gameplay. As the trailer ended, Halo fans could almost imagine picking up a controller and taking direct control of Master Chief.

Come July, Halo fans will get to see just what official Halo Infinite gameplay looks like. If it looks anything like those two previous E3 demos, then fans are certain to be pleased.

But for the time being, Halo fans will have to be patient. In the current environment, with stay-at-home orders due to COVID-19 in place waiting a week, let alone over a month, feels like torture. Halo fans have waited this long, though. They can wait a little bit longer.

Halo Infinite remains planned for release during the 2020 holiday season. It's expected to be a launch title alongside the release of the Xbox Series X console, but plans can always change. It's also expected to launch on Xbox One and PC at the same time, but, again, plans can change. Expect official details come July.
