After a few development delays, Halo Infinite is finally complete as the campaign is now available alongside the free to play multiplayer component. However, Halo Infinite ditches the carefully curated levels and corridors from the long running franchise, taking steps towards a much larger and more open map. As the campaign deep dive trailer for Halo Infinite showcased, players are free to make their own way through Zeta Halo, either by taking on story missions or stopping for various side activities as well.

With more open space to explore, 343 Industries has also added collectables for players to find including Halo's trademark Hidden Skulls, which again provide unique modifiers when activated. Players can also come across other items in the world, from audio logs that flesh out the game's larger narrative, unlockable cosmetics, high value targets, and more.

Halo Infinite also gives players a bit more agency with their version of Master Chief, who now has more customizable elements than ever before. However, befor players can upgrade Master Chief with better abilities, they'll need to locate hidden Spartan Cores. Here's everything players need to know.

What Are Spartan Cores

For the first time in a Halo title, players can upgrade and improve their version of Master Chief. Mixing in light RPG mechanics, players can track down a special currency known as Spartan Cores while playing the campaign. From the game's menu, players can go to a section called Upgrades which will showcase the abilities that can be unlocked to improve Master Chief throughout his journey. Each ability will have a description of what it can do as well as how many Spartan Cores are needed to unlock it.

Where to Find Spartan Cores

Spartan Cores can be found in each of Halo Infinite's main open areas: Lockdown, Connections, Graveyards, and Reformation. While some are hidden in touch to reach places, requiring a bit of platforming and exploration to find, others may show up during missions as well as rewards for taking out optional Banished occupied fortifications on the map.

Players may want to start by focusing on taking out Banished-controlled FOB locations around Zeta Halo. Once liberated, the map will be updated with new points of interest, including Spartan Cores. They're designated by small white arrows, and may require the player to zoom in on the map to see their locations.

Overall, there are 45 Spartan Cores to find in the game. Thankfully, the game does provide a few ways to keep track of them. First, while using the TacMap from the menu, the upper left corner displays critical information of the area players are in. They'll see the zone's name, the amount of valor to be earned, as well as a count of the collectables left to find. Not every area has Spartan Cores, so players should check the map at the start of each mission to see if its worth scouring the zone for them or not.

The other method is using Master Chief's scanner using down on the d-pad. When a Core is within range, the crate will be highlighted in orange. Players will know they've found one by the glowing green UNSC hologram above the crate. The crate will also blink and make a light chiming noise as well.

Halo Infinite is available for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
