The Halo franchise has always had an awkward relationship with the sprint mechanic. When Halo: Reach added sprint as optional armor ability, it was relatively inoffensive as fans of the franchise could just ignore it. However, subsequent Halo games have kept sprint and made it a mandatory part of the movement system, with fans complaining that it makes the games feel like Call of Duty or actually slows down the gameplay because players can't shoot while sprinting. Regardless of how one feels about sprinting in Halo, it's been confirmed that the next game in the long-running franchise, Halo Infinite, will have sprint.

This was confirmed when Microsoft showcased the first-ever Halo Infinite campaign footage at the Xbox Games Showcase event. And as expected, there has been a mixed reaction from the community. It seems many fans don't care that sprint is in Halo Infinite, but others are upset that it's returning, as they feel as though the inclusion of sprint has a big impact on the flow of the game and makes it feel less like Halo.

Of course, Halo Infinite has even more movement options than past Halo games, which could also prove to be quite controversial. The Halo Infinite grappling hook looks as though it will change things up considerably, both in terms of movement and combat, and it remains to be seen how exactly fans will react to it. There's been a mixed reception so far, but no one has actually been able to go hands-on to see what it's like in action.

There's a chance Halo Infinite fans will be able to try the grappling hook mechanic prior to launch. While it's been suggested that Halo Infinite's public beta plans are being scaled back, it's still possible that one will take place and that the grappling hook will be featured in multiplayer. Then again, it's also possible that the grappling hook and some of the other features in the campaign won't be in Halo Infinite's multiplayer at all. 343 has not revealed any multiplayer footage to date, so all fans can do is speculate about what it will entail.

Since Halo Infinite is launching with the Xbox Series X later this year, more information should come to light sooner rather than later.

Halo Infinite will launch later this year for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
