Upon its initial release, Halo Infinite was met with widespread fan and critical acclaim. With the multiplayer being shadow-dropped following an unassuming Xbox event, fans flocked to the free-to-play mode in droves, and many were pleasantly surprised with just how well the game managed to capture the feeling of playing the original Halo games all those years ago. However, it's been a few months since then, and fans were starting to become disheartened with the seeming lack of support from 343 Industries.

Thankfully, 343 Industries released a new blog post on Halo Waypoint on March 4. The blog post, titled "Halo Infinite Update — March 2022," confirmed that a new Season of Halo Infinite multiplayer was well in the works, and was set for a May 3 release date. Despite the disappointing news that Halo Infinite campaign co-op has been delayed yet again, this new Season looks as though it may give fans some exciting new content.

Halo Infinite Season 2's Lone Wolf Theme

Halo-Infinite-Season-2-Armor-Designs

Halo Infinite Season 2 is titled "Lone Wolves," and will apparently put this particular Spartan sub-group in the spotlight. According to the blog post, Lone Wolf Spartans are "hunters" that are "fierce [and] rugged," so players can probably expect to see a whole range of cosmetics that fit this, admittedly wide, description. If the concept art is anything to go by, then it seems like Season 2's armor cores might feature a lot of protruding blades and bullets.

For fans that aren't too enthralled by the Season's theme, they needn't worry, as 343 Industries also stated that "much, but not all" of the Season's content would feature this Lone Wolf theme, suggesting that other cosmetic items and content will be added. The blog post also provided a glimpse of this non-themed content, with a free "Fracture" armor core being shown.

Halo Infinite Season 2 Will Have A Clear Story

Halo Infinite Season 2 will also apparently have a distinct story, told via a blend of cinematic cutscenes and in-game events, with some extra narrative details being present in Battle Pass item descriptions. This Lone Wolf story is said to revolve around Spartan Sigrid Eklund, and Spartan Hieu Dinh, the two characters featured prominently in the game's promotional images. Along with them, players will also be spending more time Spartan Commander Laurette Agryna, the character first seen in Halo Infinite's multiplayer cinematic trailer.

Halo Infinite Season 2 Is Adding New Modes and Maps

Halo Infinite Catalyst

Probably the most exciting new content heading to Halo Infinite in Season 2 are some new maps, and some new multiplayer game modes. Two new maps have been confirmed for Season 2 so far, one being an Arena map named "Catalyst," and one being a Big Team Battle map named "Breaker." Though details are scarce, with only some concept art being shown, Catalyst seems to take place on a Forerunner structure, while Breaker seems to revolve around a Banished fortification.

Three game modes are also coming to Halo Infinite during its second Season. A new game mode, called "Last Spartan Standing," is a free-for-all variation that sees players try to eliminate each other in an attempt to be the last player alive. "Land Grab" is another new game mode being added, though no details are provided by the blog post. "King of the Hill" is making its return, but is apparently an "updated" version of the mode. Players will have to find out on May 3 whether these new game modes and maps are worth the wait.

Halo Infinite is available now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, and Season 2 "Lone Wolves" is set to launch on May 3, 2022.
