Halo Infinite's delay was understandably met with some disappointment from Xbox fans. Halo Infinite was originally planned to be the Xbox Series X console's biggest launch title, after all. Most fans understand that the delay is for the best and that Halo Infinite will be the better for it. Yet the lack of a major first-party release to replace Halo Infinite is driving speculation regarding when the FPS will eventually arrive. A recent Amazon listing is only adding fuel to the fire.

The Amazon listing isn't for Halo Infinite itself, however. That's part of why some are taking it seriously since game listings on online retailers are so often unreliable. The listing is instead for The Art of Halo Infinite book, a collection of weapon, vehicle, villain, vistas, and more art from Halo Infinite's development. The release date listing on Amazon for The Art of Halo Infinite is tentatively set for June 29, 2021.

Some are guessing that the release date for The Art of Halo Infinite might coincide with the launch of Halo Infinite itself. To do so, however, one has to make several different assumptions. First, they have to assume that The Art of Halo Infinite release date is firm, which is definitely possible given Amazon's typical reliability for book release dates. Second, they have to assume art book releases often coincide with game releases, which isn't reliable whatsoever. Third, it has to be assumed that Microsoft would be fine launching Halo Infinite in June of all months.

Needless to say, this rumor is ultimately as reliable as any other retailer listing, if not even less so. There's nothing to say that this listing has any meaningful tie to the release of Halo Infinite. For example, The World of Cyberpunk 2077 art book was released on July 28. Immortals Fenyx Rising releases December 3, but its art book The Art of Immortals Fenyx Rising won't be out until late January. There's simply no reliable trend for when art books are released for speculating a game's launch date.

For the time being, the only official information about Halo Infinite's release is that it'll be in 2021. Depending on the scope of 343 Industries' plans, that could mean an early 2021 launch or a late 2021 launch. It's all still up in the air.

The last official word from 343 was that no one should trust any rumored Halo Infinite release dates. That's because 343 and Microsoft haven't even decided on the official release date yet, so clearly no rumors will be reliable. That was said in late September, so it's possible that's changed since. But odds are if Microsoft had a release date it would share it publicly. With the Xbox Series X launching in a month, Microsoft's going to want to get fans as excited for the new console as possible.
