As the final year of the PS4 and Xbox One comes to a close, gamers are beginning to look towards the future, with next-gen consoles slated to release at the end of 2020. However, delays caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic have many questioning if the consoles will release with a full lineup of games to play at launch. Luckily for those waiting for the Xbox Series X, it appears Halo Infinite will still be launching with it.
In a brief update posted to Xbox Wire, Microsoft teased some of the announcements it will make on May 7, along with stating that the company's goal "remains to launch Xbox Series X and Halo Infinite this Holiday." It's reassuring news, as the likelihood of console launches this year has been called into question.
A large portion of the worry came from the delay of Last of Us 2. Shortly after the game was pushed back, industry insiders began alluding that video game delays would dominate 2020, in large part due to manufacturing and development constraints caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The pandemic has forced many to work from home and limited key supplies, raising concerns.
However, hearing that Halo Infinite, and the Xbox Series X itself, is still on track is reassuring. There will likely be availability issues for next-gen consoles, so preorders will almost certainly be limited. However, Halo Infinite will be on Xbox One, so those that can't get their hands on the console should still have an option to play.
There's still no solid date for the console or the game, and delays are certainly still a possibility, but with any luck, both will manage to release on time. Halo Infinite is one of the most anticipated games of the year, and while little is currently known about it, Xbox needs a strong first-party game to kick off the next-generation of consoles.
Halo Infinite information has leaked, though primarily through toys — a strange departure from the norm. No Xbox Studios games will be at Microsoft's event this week, but one can hope that more Halo Infinite news will be released soon.
