Halo Infinite recently received its full release, following a short spell in open beta, which was one of a handful of surprise announcements at the recent 20th anniversary of Xbox celebrations. As is often the case, the latest entry in Xbox's flagship franchise has been well-received, exemplified by its impressive 86 Metascore on Xbox Series X/S.

Halo Infinite's online multiplayer has been praised in particular, with the game bringing back the quintessential multiplayer fun that made games like Halo 3 such console sellers. Big Team Battle is where a lot of the fun is at in Halo Infinite, so we've listed some tips to help new players get started.

7 Learn The Maps

As one would expect, the Big Team Battle maps are huge. Consequently, it can be very difficult for beginners to get a stranglehold on any given battle, as their lack of map knowledge will make the game significantly harder for them.

New players should take the time to learn each of the game's maps, to understand the fastest routes in the area, vantage points, and key locations for the various game modes. Moreover, it's important to learn where the weapon and vehicle spawn points are to give players the best tools for the job.

6 Utilize The Grappleshot

When a new online multiplayer game is released, there is inevitably a period where all players are getting to grips with mechanics and features, which can lead to some hilarious mistakes. Although most people now have a solid understanding of Halo Infinite, many people still don't realize just how effective the grapple shot is.

The grapple shot isn't just for swinging from building to building like Spider-Man; it also has a handful of other uses that are particularly helpful in combat. The grapple shot can attach to enemies, allowing for high-speed melee attacks; it can pull weapons towards the player from a distance, and it can also grapple the player into a vehicle, kicking out the current occupant in the process.

5 Always Have At Least One Teammate Nearby

Like many online multiplayer games, teams in Halo Infinite will be most effective when the players are verbally communicating with one another, devising strategies, and advising each other about enemy locations.

However, not everyone plays Halo Infinite with friends, which makes winning games more tricky. Still, there are some very basic non-verbal strategies that non-communicative players can implement, such as sticking with at least one other player. Having a teammate nearby is beneficial for numerous reasons, but particularly because it lowers the chances of being outnumbered, it gives two sets of eyes to spot enemies, makes attacking or defending objectives easier, and makes picking off stray enemies a breeze.

4 Learn The Ins And Outs Of Each Game Mode

It may sound obvious, but it's imperative to learn the ins and outs of each game mode to give players the best chance of victory. Players should, of course, learn the objective of each game mode as soon as possible, though it's also important to learn key points like base/zone locations and at least one or two simple strategies for each mode.

Thankfully, we have some handy guides that provide tips for the various game modes, including Slayer, Capture The Flag, Oddball, and Strongholds. These guides are for the Arena versions of the game modes, though most of the tips still apply to Big Team Battle.

3 Regardless Of The Game Mode - Play The Objective

For some people, the game mode is irrelevant. Regardless of what mode they're in, they will be playing with the same objective in mind: get as many kills as possible. Unsurprisingly, this is a terrible strategy for any game mode that isn't Slayer and can cost the team dearly. As well as hampering the team, players who focus on kills over the objective also won't be helping themselves, as the point payout will be minimal compared to objective-based scores.

So, although killing opponents is, of course, a significant part of the game, players should be sure to prioritize winning the objective and let the kills come naturally.

2 Try To Control The Map

In any of the Big Team Battle modes, the winning team will have often achieved one thing: control of the map. Controlling one of Halo Infinite's maps requires the team to do several things, such as acquiring the best weapons, utilizing the best vehicles, and having teammates stationed in the map's key vantage points.

It is incredibly difficult to win any game mode if the opposition achieves those three things, so it should be kept in mind for every map and mode.

1 Stay Mobile

Halo Infinite isn't a game that should be played at a slow, methodical pace, particularly in Big Team Battle. Not only do most of the game's objectives require players to frantically attack, defend, or capture certain locations/items, but it also is essential for gathering the best weapons and vehicles, as mentioned in the previous point.

It's also a good idea to move and jump about when under fire from a nearby enemy, as a static target is far easier to kill than a mobile one.
