It has already been hinted that Halo Infinite, the next game in the long-running sci-fi shooter series, will offer a different voice for Master Chief. However, this may not be the only surprising change that Halo Infinite has in store for fans of the Halo protagonist.

In the latest 343 Social Stream, the developer got together to discuss how Halo Infinite's jaw-dropping E3 2018 reveal trailer came together. During this stream, Halo Infinite narrative experience director Dan Chosich reveals that the Halo Infinite version of Master Chief "is by far the coolest Master Chief we have ever done, or that anybody's ever really done."

Chosich teased that, although the new character design takes inspiration from throughout the Halo series, including Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4, and Halo 5: Guardians, Master Chief will still look "a little different" in the new game. While eagle-eyed Halo fans may pore over the already-revealed Master Chief designs looking for clues, Chosich confirmed that the final design for the character hasn't been unveiled.

Ever since Halo Infinite was announced, 343 Industries has been adamant that it will be a Master Chief game. So those who had set expectations for the title, and how Master Chief may be depicted in it, could wind up being disappointed with the character's new look. It will be up to the team at 343 to temper these expectations and make sure it doesn't do anything too disruptive that turns off fans of the franchise.

In any case, the character redesign isn't the only change that Halo Infinite players will have to get used to. The game has also been described as "ambitious," which indicates that it could offer major gameplay changes and additions that fans had not expected. There is even speculation that Halo Infinite will be an open-world game, something which would fit in with that "ambitious" description.

Moreover, 343 Industries and its co-developer for the game, SkyBox Labs, will be using a new engine to make the game happen. This will hopefully ensure that whatever changes the development team has planned - from brand new gameplay to character redesigns - its tech will be more than capable of making that happen.

Halo Infinite is currently in development for Xbox One.
