The original Destiny game was known for its loot cave exploit, where players were able to farm constantly-spawning enemies for XP and loot. Bungie eventually patched the loot cave, but its legacy lived on through the Destiny 2 loot cave and now it seems that even Halo Infinite is giving it a nod.

While Halo Infinite is developed by 343 Industries, the original Halo games were made by Destiny developer Bungie, and so it's entirely possible that the Halo Infinite loot caves are a reference to Destiny's, though it could also be a coincidence. Regardless, there are loot caves in Halo Infinite that players can find in the game's multiplayer that contains some weapons and items for players to add to their arsenal.

The Halo Infinite loot caves are located on the Big Team Battle map Fragmentation. While exploring the map, Halo Infinite players will find large red doors that they can unlock using their AI companion. In what is perhaps another nod to Destiny, players have to defend the doors for a certain amount of time while their AI unlocks it. After opening the doors and gaining access to the loot cave, Halo Infinite players will unlock the Natural Formation Location Sensation achievement.

The description for this particular Halo Infinite achievement asks players to "Gain access to a loot cave in a matchmade game," which is where the "loot cave" connection comes in. The wording of the achievement suggests that there may eventually be more loot caves added to Halo Infinite, though it's possible that the two loot caves found on the Fragmentation map will be the only ones that are ever featured in the game.

Anyone that wants to see Halo Infinite's current loot caves can boot up a custom game on the Fragmentation map and check them out, though that won't unlock the achievement. Anyone that wants the achievement will need to get the Fragmentation map in a match-made game of Big Team Battle.

Halo Infinite is a live service game that will receive regular updates and content drops, so it's quite possible that new Big Team Battle maps with loot caves will get added as part of future updates. Halo Infinite Season 1 will last until May 2022, and while 343 has yet to reveal any of the new content that fans can expect to see in the game between now and then, one has to imagine that there is plenty in store for Halo fans to get excited about.

Halo Infinite launches December 8 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
