Rumors going into E3 2019 claimed that Xbox would show off gameplay footage for Halo Infinite, but, while the game did appear at Microsoft's press conference, the trailer that was shown was mostly cinematic in nature, and it did not show off any of the game's main systems or moment-to-moment gameplay.

And it looks like fans are going to have to be happy with this reveal for quite a while, with developer 343 Industries saying that it will not be showing off any more of the game until next year's E3.

The announcement that Halo Infinite is going dark until E3 2020 came from Chris Lee, studio head of 343 Industries, via a blog post on the Halo Waypoint website:

"As for what’s next, E3 2020 will be a big moment for Halo Infinite. Until we reach that destination in 2020, we’ll continue to embrace the mystery and wonder of Halo and the endless opportunity and potential of this engine, this hardware and, most of all, this team."

E3 2020 is already expected to be a huge year for Xbox, with many assuming that it will be the big reveal for the next Xbox, currently known as Project Scarlett, and all the focus will be on next-gen. With Halo Infinite being announced as a launch title for Project Scarlett, it should be safe to assume when Halo Infinite is finally ready to show more of itself in a year's time, it will do so in a major way.

Even after the latest trailer, very little is known about the next mainline entry in the Halo series. 343 Industries is taking its time on Halo Infinite, hoping to avoid the harsh crunch the developer went through to get Halo 5 out the door. While there have been hints and rumors that Halo Infinite may be open world or involve RPG systems, or even contain a battle royale mode, whatever may come of the game, it seems to be hoping to deliver on a massive scale. In fact, it has been rumored that Halo Infinite could be the most expensive video game ever by the time all is said and done.

The latest reveal shows off the power of Project Scarlett and Halo Infinite's new Slipspace engine, and it is footage that fans will have to be content with until more official reveals for the game come out at E3 2020.

Halo Infinite is launching Holiday 2020 exclusively with Project Scarlett and for PC.
