Halo Infinite is one of the most anticipated titles coming at the end of a packed 2021. As the release date for Halo Infinite gets closer, excitement for the Master Chief’s next adventure continues to increase. However, with this hype comes a lot of expectations for 343 Industries to perfect the various elements of the game such as the XP system.

In previous Halo installments, the leveling system consisted of getting kills, assists, and wins to earn XP. As long as a player continued to grind the multiplayer, they would continue to level up. However, with the introduction of a new free-to-play model for Halo Infinite multiplayer, this structure has changed. Instead of the classic XP leveling formula, players will now have a list of daily and weekly challenges to complete to gain XP. With this new leveling system comes new concerns from gamers that there will be a time restriction placed on XP.

Recently, the Halo Infinite developers attempted to ease fans’ concerns about the new XP system, saying that “it should take a player 16 to 18 hours of playing” to complete all the available challenges. The developers noted that they are paying close attention to player feedback regarding the level system in the game. While they are confident that the day one system will keep fans busy, the systems could potentially be tweaked post-launch to account for player feedback.

In addition, the update from 343 provided details on how challenges work. There are three tiers of daily challenges, each becoming more difficult to complete. According to the developers, the first tier of challenges consists of simple tasks such as playing matches. After completing the first tier, the second group of challenges will be presented that require more work to complete. However, the developers noted that these more difficult challenges reward more XP. The third tier of challenges for the day requires players to win matches to earn XP. This system resets at the beginning of each day.

Despite this new info from the developers, there are still some limitations to the system. Players can only work on three challenges at one time. However, a fourth active challenge can be unlocked for those that buy the Halo Infinite Battle Pass. This is somewhat concerning as it locks potential progression behind a paywall.

While 343 discusses the new challenge system for Halo Infinite, the company recently announced the end of seasonal content for the Master Chief Collection. According to the developer, the Season 8 Battle Pass will be the final one for the collection of games. While this is disappointing for fans of the MCC, it hopefully means better support for Halo Infinite after release.
