One of the Halo franchise's most popular multiplayer maps, The Pit, is being remade in Forge mode by 343 Industries for an upcoming release in Halo Infinite. While the current state of Halo Infinite is a matter of some controversy, Halo Infinite's upcoming Forge release is an undeniable bright spot. Hoping to showcase Forge while tying it into Halo's esports scene, 343 has announced that it's bringing back one of Halo 3's most exciting maps. The Pit was first released for Halo 3 and has a special place in the Halo franchise's esports scene. Originally made by Bungie, 343 Industries even remade and renamed it Pitfall for its first release, Halo 4. The original map is set in a UNSC Training Facility and features various training structures, Pelicans, fencing, and tarmac. The map itself is symmetrical, with a variety of powerful weapon options and power-ups that spawn in its center.RELATED: 343 is Reportedly Losing Another Longtime Halo DeveloperFor Halo Infinite, 343 Industries is remaking The Pit with an entirely new aesthetic. Instead of the industrial training facility, Halo Infinite's The Pit will feature a neon purple futuristic style. Since The Pit is made entirely in Halo Infinite's Forge map creation engine, it's made using assets included with the game. Other than aesthetic changes, it looks like 343 is working to authentically recreate The Pit's design as Halo fans will remember it.

The Pit, unfortunately, will not be released alongside Forge mode when it launches on November 8. Instead, it's planned to be delivered shortly after. No specific release date has yet been confirmed, and no details regarding the delayed release of The Pit were shared. 343 is likely to be busy ensuring Forge works as intended when it launches, though, and would rather its focus be on that rather than launching a new map at the same time.

It's also possible that The Pit will be delivered alongside other content, rather than releasing The Pit on its own. The Pit may have just made sense to announce as part of a Halo esports event before 343 Industries is ready to unveil any other plans.

Altogether, The Pit is a fun potential addition to Halo Infinite and something that the franchise's fans and esports watchers will certainly appreciate. It's not a particularly large or meaningful addition, especially compared to Forge itself, but it's fun and unexpected, and that's something Halo Infinite certainly needs more of. Expect more information about Forge and The Pit over the next month.

Halo Infinite is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
