After countless rumors and one big leak by the Pringles brand, Microsoft surprise launched the multiplayer side of Halo Infinite during its 20th Anniversary retrospective event. After the well recieved flight tests by the community, 343 Industries felt the game mode was ready to go and gave players the chance to drop in early. While technically launched, 343 has indicated that this is a multiplayer beta, though all modes and maps are available and player progression will remain once the game officially launched on December 8.

While the news was met with praise by the community, there have been a few bumps in the road. The game's first Battle Pass which focuses on gear from Halo Reach has been met with criticisms by players who felt progression moves too slow. The studio is planning on adding and adjusting challenges to hopefully improve progression speed, though many fans want XP earned for badges earned as well. However, a new problem appears to be rising, one that other multiplayer-centric games have struggled with.

Unfortunately, cheating has begun to become a major problem online, ruining matches with aimbots and tools to help track players. Clips and videos of hackers impacting matches have started surfacing online, with one in particular ruining a ranked match in the Diamond Tier. The footage was captured by a player named ZLep who had a suspicion that something felt off during that particular Capture the Flag match.

One enemy player in particular appeared to be moving a bit erratically, almost as if they were able to follow and track players as they moved behind walls. Once the match finished, they reviewed the footage using Halo Infinite's Theater mode and it became clear that this player was not only tracking players movement through walls, but they had perfect headshot accuracy. ZLep contacted the player asking them if they were cheating but the player replied they were using a controller mod.

Ultimately, this is an issue 343 will have to address, especially that it has started to impact ranked matches. Fans are hoping the situation won't get as bad as it did for Call of Duty: Warzone, seemingly going unchecked in the popular free to play title, even after multiple ban waves. Ultimately, Activision came up with a custom solution following the release of Call of Duty Vanguard, utilizing the Ricochet anti-cheat tool to help safeguard players and games.

Halo Infinite releases on December 8. The multiplayer is available now.
