Halo Infinite's campaign has players in control of Master Chief as he explores the open-world setting of Installation 07, otherwise known as Zeta Halo. For those going into the campaign as a Halo newbie, it turns out that even the Normal difficulty mode for the game might cause players some trouble. Even experienced players can find themselves often dying to the brutal army of The Banished. For the Halo Infinite players out there that want to change the difficulty level, either lower or higher, here's how to go about it.

There are four different difficulty levels in Halo Infinite, and here's how players can change it. It's worth noting that players are unable to change the difficulty during the game, and it must be done in the main menu.

How to Change Difficulty in Halo Infinite

  • If players are currently in the middle of playing Halo Infinite, they will need to leave their game by going into the menu and selecting "End Game."
  • Choose "Okay" to head back to the main menu.
  • Now, make sure to choose "Load Game," and not "Continue." If Halo Infinite players choose to continue, they will go back to their file without being able to change the difficulty setting.
  • Choose the file to load, and then players can change the difficulty settings from here.

Halo Infinite's Difficulty Settings Explained

  • Easy - Take in the sights and sounds around the Ring as you slaughter outmatched adversaries. Recommended for players new to Halo.
  • Normal - Brutal enemies threaten humanity and test your indomitable spirit. First-person shooter experience recommended.
  • Heroic - Your foes are well-armed and resolute. Quell the storm and ride the thunder. Recommended for veteran Halo players.
  • Legendary - Run, little demon. Recommended for fans of Jackal Snipers.

Are There Difficulty Achievements in Halo Infinite?

However, for the Xbox achievement hunters out there, they should know that if they do decide to change the difficulty, then they may not be able to obtain some achievements. Here are the three difficulty-related achievements that Halo players should be aware of:

  • Bare Your Fangs - Complete campaign on Normal
  • Fight Hard, Die Well - Complete all missions on Heroic
  • Headmaster - Complete all missions on Legendary with Skulls active
