On Friday, a report went out detailing a massive new battle royale game mode being in development for Halo Infinite. The battle royale is said to be comparable in size and scope to Call of Duty: Warzone, with developer Certain Affinity being brought in to support it with content long-term. The report didn't provide firm sources, however, leaving its reliability wavering. Since then some more substantial evidence has been discovered, with datamined information regarding Halo Infinite's battle royale being found online. The leaks were shared by the InfiniteLeaks team on Twitter which is known for datamining Halo Infinite. The leak states that the following information is associated with what's referred to as the "Tatanka" game mode, expected to be Halo Infinite's battle royale. Leaks can be split into two specific topics, the first detailing certain game modes for Halo Infinite's battle royale and the second detailing in-game options for the game mode.RELATED: Halo Infinite's Attrition Mode Feels Like the First Step Toward a Battle RoyaleWhile these revelations won't necessarily be surprising, they should further confirm that Tatanka is a battle royale mode. The game modes that were discovered include the following four choices. There's Tatanka-Duos-UGC, Tatanka-Quads-UGC, Tatanka-DefaultBots-UGC, and Tatanka-Default-UGC. Note that UGC is a flag used in Halo Infinite to refer to game modes. In other words, Tatanka-Quads-UGC implies it's a four-player version of the Tatanka game mode, a staple battle royale game mode.

The second half of the leak is a list of Tatanka game mode settings that further break down what the game mode is. Options include allowing players to respawn in a drop pod, usage of the "Containment Zone," an alternate loot item table, "Bleedout," execution timings, and more. Suffice to say, they're options for controlling basic expected features for a battle royale mode, if Halo Infinite had one.

These revelations aren't necessarily the most exciting when it comes to something as big as a battle royale mode in Halo Infinite. But the leaks are absolutely the closest to an official confirmation that the battle royale is in development and further along than many may expect. Pieces of the battle royale are already finding their way into Halo Infinite. The full game mode can't be too far behind.

As for when Halo Infinite and battle royale fans can expect more information, the report from yesterday hinted that the new game mode could launch with Halo Infinite's third or fourth season. That likely means it won't arrive until later 2022, with a potential announcement coming this summer -- if not earlier. Considering Halo Infinite launched last year, it may feel late for a battle royale. It's better late than never, though.

Halo Infinite is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
