The Halo franchise has established a reputation for armor customization options in its multiplayer. Halo 4 and Halo 5 were criticized for changing the aesthetic of armor options too drastically, but the series has always made a point offering robust options for players to use. Halo Infinite will apparently double down on that customization, as 343 Industries has revealed that it will feature "millions" of possible combinations for players to earn.

This morning, the official Halo YouTube account uploaded a 12-minute deep dive into Halo Infinite's armor customization options. Speaking on the topic, Live Design Director Ryan Paradis stated that the game will feature enough content on day one to offer "millions of customization combinations for Spartans on the battlefield." Paradis goes on to highlight some of the options, including individual armor pieces and coatings.

Don't expect all of the customization options to be so dramatic as to completely change a Spartan's look, though. While having millions of possibilities is impressive, it sounds like that figure also includes some of the minutiae that will be featured in the game, like weapon skins and emblems. While those can still make a Spartan feel unique, they might not be as dramatically distinct as some may be thinking.

The video does give a better idea of which armor pieces that players will be able to customize. Paradis highlights shoulders, gloves, kneepads, helmets, helmet attachments, and the visor color as customizable options. The trailer also shows and an "armor core" as customizable, which appears to be the body armor the Spartans wear.

Players will also have far greater customization for the Spartans themselves this time around, being able to change their body type and voice, while also being able to choose prosthetics for individual limbs. According to 343 Industries, the goal is to let players represent themselves fully, something that having robust character options is an essential part of.

Finally, the video shows off some of Halo Infinite's armor coatings. The coatings will provide an extra layer of distinction over the core armor customization, helping players feel more unique. Some of those options will be tied to Halo Infinite's battle pass, though the system will be a bit different than other ones out there. Players will be able to swap between each season's battle pass to unlock the items that they want, and those battle passes will never expire, something other multiplayer games have been criticized for.

Halo Infinite will release this year for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
