Halo fans received some unexpected news on Twitter today as the official Halo account tweeted out the announcement of an arcade Halo game. Halo: Fireteam Raven is an arcade rail shooter, much in the vein of games like House of the Dead or Time Crisis, set during the events of Halo: Combat Evolved. And it looks like the folks working on the game have put quite some hard work into it.

As this is the sci-fi series' first foray into physical arcades, it seems 343 Industries has called on some help from "arcade legends" Play Mechanix and Raw Thrills to bring Halo: Fireteam Raven to life. Anyone familiar with taking trips to most arcades will be familiar with these big developers' works such as Terminator: Salvation and Injustice: Arcade.

According to the announcement article on Halo Waypoint, the game will put the player in the role of an elite Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, or ODST, as they fight alongside Master Chief in an attempt to prevent the Covenant from getting their hands on an "ancient superweapon." Throughout the game players will be facing off against both the Flood and the Covenant on the surface of Alpha Halo.

The game will allow up to four players simultaneously on a large 130-inch screen by using "multipurpose machine guns." In the trailer, it looks like players will have the ability to obtain different weapons throughout the game as well as be able to use the turrets mounted on the back of vehicles. It also looks as though many fan-favorite enemies and locales will be making appearances too.

Along with confirming both cooperative and competitive aspects of the game, the announcement also promises a "Halo adventure like nothing else you’ve ever played in the franchise." They don't seem to be holding back on that statement either, as each Halo: Fireteam Raven match will give players a QRC code that when scanned onto a phone will upload their scores to their Halo Waypoint identities allowing players to compare their scores.

As of now, Halo: Fireteam Raven will only be available to play at Dave & Busters in the United States and Canada starting this Summer. However, it seems the game will be making it's way to other locations in the eventual future. So keep an eye out for future details and in the meantime click here to find your nearest Dave and Busters.
