Halo hasn't really been a franchise to shy away from elaborating its lore. Through the storytelling in various graphic novels, comic series, and movies/shows, the Microsoft classic's universe has continued to expand over the years. This year is no different, as 343 Industries announced on Tuesday that a new comic miniseries will be released later this year.

The Halo miniseries will consist of three parts, the first of which will go on sale June 6 and is available for pre-order now at local comic shops. Part 1 is called Halo: Collateral Damage and will follow the Master Chief and Blue Team on a UNSC deployment to an unstable colony world.

Their mission is to stop Covenant efforts to uncover an ancient power that hides beneath the planet's surface. However, the situation takes an unexpected turn and the stakes are raised for the team, which must put their trust in each other and a few human rebels in order to survive.

Alex Irvine will be writing the new series, with artist Dave Crosland, colorist Leonard O'Grady, letterer Simon Bowland, and cover artist Zak Hartong by his side. Irvine returns after writing a Halo comic last December, Halo: Rise of Atriox #4. His previous work includes Iron Man: The Rapture and Dark Sun.

If comics aren't quite the right cup of tea, fans can also look forward to the Steven Spielberg-produced Halo TV miniseries that may start filming this fall. Spielberg's main focus lately has been the film adaptation of Ernest Cline's Ready Player One; however, according to Spielberg, after the movie's release later this month, the Halo show will become his primary project. Ready Player One is set for release on March 29, so there will likely be more details about the show around summer time.

Despite having new lore to enjoy, it seems Halo fans will have to wait a little bit longer for a brand new game. A recent blog post from 343 made a Halo 6 launch in 2018 seem unlikely, though the community was promised "plenty of exciting [adventures] regardless - some of which might surprise you more than others."
