Halo 6 was surprisingly absent at last year's E3 event, but many fans are expecting the game to make an appearance during Microsoft's press conference this coming June. In the meantime, we still know next to nothing about Halo 6, but a recent job listing suggests that it could feature virtual reality content of some kind.

Halo 6 developer 343 Industries is hiring a Creative Director to help the studio create a virtual reality experience set in the Halo universe. It's unclear if this virtual reality experience would be a part of the Halo 6 package, or if it would be a side project. Further details on what the project may entail aren't available from the job listing, but regardless, fans can take this as confirmation that 343 is working on something related to both Halo and VR.

If Halo 6 does have virtual reality, it could be a sign that Microsoft is finally going to pursue VR in a meaningful capacity. So far, Microsoft has done little to compete with PlayStation VR, but it may be able to do so without even having to produce virtual reality hardware of its own.

new halo comic mini-series to release this summer

Microsoft seems to have a working relationship with Oculus, the company behind the Oculus Rift VR headset, as it allowed Xbox One controllers to be bundled with the device. Perhaps Microsoft will introduce VR to the Xbox One by making the console (or at least the more powerful Xbox One X) compatible with Oculus Rift. This could potentially be a relatively low-cost solution for Microsoft, at least compared to designing its own VR tech from scratch.

Of course, it's possible that 343 will scrap any plans it has for a virtual reality Halo 6 experience. After all, there are a number of rumors floating around about the game, but it could turn out that none of them are accurate. So far, rumors about Halo 6 have pointed to the game including a battle royale mode of some sort, and releasing at some point in 2019.

These rumors should be laid to rest once E3 2018 rolls around in June - unless Halo 6 skips the event this year as well.

Halo 6 is in development for unspecified platforms.
