Fans of the Halo series, specifically those who have digitally preordered the latest installment of the futuristic shooter, may be pleased to know that Halo 5: Guardians is now available for pre-load. This means that everyone who ordered a copy of the game from the Xbox Store can now download the game files so that it is ready to launch the second it unlocks on October 27th. Xbox fans may need the time to invest in some new hard drive space however as the game will reportedly take up to 60 GB.
Pre-loading works with both the standard edition and the Digital Deluxe edition – though neither will allow access to the game until 12:01 EDT on the 27th. Furthermore, preordering Halo 5 from the Xbox Store also gets you access to a loadout weapon and custom skin on its multiplayer mode Warzone. The Digital Deluxe version, priced at $90, comes with a copy of the animated series Halo: The Fall of Reach, a Warzone REQ Bundle, and a loadout weapon and skin. Players who want even more content can currently earn a free REQ pack to help upgrade their character in Warzone.
For people who aren’t aware, Warzone is a large scale multiplayer mode with 12 players on either team that aims to replicate a real battle. A.I. grunts assist players in battle, making the game feel filled with enemies whilst the human players fight amongst each other. Warzone isn’t the only multiplayer mode available, however, and recently 343 Industries announced the full list of all seven multiplayer modes that Halo 5 players will be able to experience upon the game’s launch.
Microsoft has also confirmed that it will be releasing a day one update for Halo 5 that is set to “supplement online multiplayer with map content” for both the Arena and Warzone multiplayer modes. So far it is not known when this update will release, other than that it will be “prior to launch” but setting your Xbox One console to “Instant On” mode will allow it to automatically download updates and thereby allow fans to jump right into the action when the game is available.
While the wait still seems substantial, the developers at 343 Industries have unveiled the full list of achievements that players can unlock in Halo 5. While they do contain some notions of spoilers, they do allow for fans to plan their experience ahead of time – provided they’re after that coveted 100% completion.
Halo 5: Guardians is set to release on October 27th, exclusively for Xbox One. It is currently available for pre-load via the Xbox Store.
