Halo 4 Release Date Announcement Today

[Update: Microsoft has confirmed that Halo 4 is set for release on November 6th 2012. Check out Rooster Teeth’s announcement trailer at the bottom of the page.]

Yesterday Halo 4 Senior Producer Alison Stroll tweeted out some news about the game that had us at the same time intrigued and confused. Contained within Stroll’s tweet was an announcement that some Halo 4 news was coming gamers’ way tomorrow (today) but it’s release method seemed a bit odd.

The confusing part was that the apparent news would be releasing via Conan O’Brien (maybe his Twitter account, maybe his show). To corroborate the news Major Nelson also tweeted out that some Halo 4 news would be coming within the next 24 hours of his tweet.

While 343 Industries is in the midst of unveiling details about the game to Game Informer, including the new multiplayer mode Regicide, it appears that a larger scale reveal is planned for later today. What that reveal is exactly we don’t know, but new developments suggest it could be a release date.

According to The Verge, the release date of the game will be revealed to be the 6th of November, and that the official confirmation will take place around noon today. Conan O’Brien’s late night talk show doesn’t go to air until around 10 PM depending on your area, so perhaps the @TeamCoco Twitter account will be announcing the release date, and new footage will appear on the show. The Twitter reveal could also be a pre-emptive measure by Microsoft‘s PR, who want to circumvent the leaks that might happen during the live taping of O’Brien’s show, which could take place around noon.

As games continue to enter the mainstream their presence in popular media continues to grow, but not on the level of movies or television. Last year Jimmy Fallon played host to all the hot titles of 2011’s holiday season including Uncharted 3 and Battlefield 3, so it makes sense for O’Brien to get in on the action.

Either way it looks like gamers might be closer to uncovering what the cryptic Holiday 2012 release window actually meant, and, to make things even sweeter, more Master Chief news is in their future.

As promised, here is Rooster Teeth’s Halo 4 release date announcement trailer, ‘Remember To Not Forget.’

Do you think November 6th is a perfect release date for Halo 4 or were you expecting it to be earlier?
