With only several days left before the legacy multiplayer servers for classic Halo games sunset on Xbox 360, the new year brings with it the end of an era. 343 Industries announced this sunset more than a year ago and has given fans ample time to prepare for it, though it may still be an uneasy transition for players whose memories of titles such as Halo 3 on Xbox 360 are heartfelt and nostalgic.

Halo 3 is, for many Halo players and general FPS fans, a cherished and beloved title that cemented what online multiplayer should look like on a fundamental level. Fortunately, classic Halo titles have been made available on modern platforms through Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and thus older console platforms are obsolete anyway. Regardless, players have shared that they will never forget their experiences playing Halo 3's multiplayer on original hardware.

Players salute Halo 3 and the other classic Halo titles that will sunset this week with different tributes and memories. Consensus agrees that Halo 3's multiplayer was superb in many ways, and players remember distinct moments and experiences that made it so special for them. Many fans believe that later Halo installments have egregiously moved away from what made traditional Halo games so memorable and intimately dynamic, which they fear will be lost when Halo's Xbox 360 servers sunset this week.

Many who reminisce upon Halo 3 and what made it special to them have shared their plans to play it before its inevitable sunset. Of course, for many new players who have only discovered Halo through Halo: The Master Chief Collection, the games can still be thoroughly enjoyed while they may not have the same nostalgic feel for them as others do. Gamers have shared clip montages of their Halo 3 multiplayer killstreaks, which are sure to instill nostalgia into anyone who had spent a considerable amount of time playing it themselves.

Halo Infinite's massively popular multiplayer was a favorable surprise for fans when it shadow-dropped before the game's campaign. While fans have addressed their concerns toward its seasonal Battle Pass, it is still a fun experience that players have been able to enjoy. However, the admiration and nostalgia demonstrated toward Halo 3's multiplayer, as well as the other Halo servers that will be shut down soon, shows that those experiences are unlike any other in the franchise.

As 343 Industries looks ahead to new, modern content in the Halo franchise, fans continue to look back for as long as they can and honor the memories they have shared through Halo 3.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is available now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
