The reveal of the Xbox Series S in addition to the Xbox Series X has some people wondering which one to buy. It seems like both will be equally good choices for Halo fans, though only Xbox Series S has a confirmed Halo easter egg. For those sticking solely with PC over either console but still hoping for more Halo, there is also good news.

News of Halo Infinite has been somewhat sparse since its gameplay reveal, but it still carries a good deal of hype. This is not surprisng, since Halo has been the major Xbox seller since the first Xbox. The original Halo trilogy and games that immediately followed it are still regarded as some of the best first person shooters ever made. So it should please fans of the series that another game in the series is being added to Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is a collection of some of the best Halo titles in a single game. It was made available for the Xbox One in 2015 and then, several years later, for the PC... in pieces. Games have been added slowly to the Collection, and this is still ongoing (the final total will be 6 games). Recently, Halo 3: ODST beta testing began on PC and Xbox One, leading to the obvious conclusion that it would be releasing on those systems soon. This is indeed the case, as Halo 3: ODST has now been confirmed as becoming part of the Master Chief Collection. This marks the penultimate game to be added.

For those unsure whether or not Halo Infinite's delay will result in improvementsHalo 3:ODST makes a good, safe choice. The game was originally envisioned as a tide-over release between Halo 3 and Halo: Reach. Its scope broadened, and it became a good game in its own right. While players at the time questioned whether the rather sparse story and new mode (Firefight) were worth a full $60, this is less of an issue now. The Master Chief Collection is currently available on Steam for $40, and ODST makes a perfect, fairly small addition to an already great collection.

Not only is the Master Chief Collection one of the best rated Halo games out there, so are the games that make up the collection. It's undoubtedly a steal, especially now with ODST being added. Halo fans who are PC owners could certainly do worse.

On the other side of the coin, the future of Halo Infinite is still uncertain. With rumors of delay, gameplay that failed to wow crowds, and the previous shift in Infinite's leadership, the future of Halo is a shaky question mark. Fortunately, it's past is still rock solid.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is available for PC and Xbox One.
