As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, production studios have been delaying their productions or releasing movies early via other means. Universal Pictures came into trouble with AMC Theaters after releasing Trolls World Tour through video on demand in April, but with the pandemic still ongoing it has now decided to delay four of its upcoming movies, including Halloween Kills and its sequel Halloween Ends.

The delay of Halloween Kills, a follow-up to the 2018 reboot of the popular slasher franchise, was announced by composer John Carpenter in a joint statement with director David Gordon Green on Twitter today. It will open in October 2021 now, with Halloween Ends coming in 2022. Universal has also delayed The Forever Purge and Jordan Peele's Candyman remake to July 9, 2021 and October 16, 2020.

On the bright side, fans of Halloween can see a 30-second teaser for Halloween Kills uploaded to Twitter by Carpenter alongside the delay message, which also says Universal will release the movie theatrically and in IMAX upon its release. The message teases the film as a "creative playground" with unexpected twists that will star a collection of new faces alongside returning cast members like Jamie Lee Curtis.

Many other facets of the entertainment industry have also been delayed again following a spike in COVID-19 cases particularly in the United States. For instance, AMC Theaters delayed its reopening after  two of its biggest potential summer blockbuster movies, Christopher Nolan's Tenet and Disney's live-action Mulan, were also delayed.

Halloween Kills is currently set to release October 2021.
