Jamie Lee Curtis, who first played Laurie Strode over forty years ago in John Carpenter’s Halloween, thinks Halloween Ends will be the last time she plays the iconic character. The upcoming slasher sequel will be the third and final chapter in David Gordon Green and Danny McBride’s new Halloween trilogy.

Halloween Ends is the direct sequel to Halloween Kills, which was delayed for an entire year due to the pandemic and will hit theatres this fall. The two subsequent sequels to Halloween (2018) were initially planned to be filmed back-to-back, but plans fell through due to Kill’s intense shooting schedule. Kills was produced by Blumhouse Productions and written by Green, McBride, and Scott Teems. Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak are all reprising their roles in the upcoming blockbuster.

Curtis recently told Total Film Magazine that Halloween Ends will probably be her last time playing Strode. "I would say, given what I know about the next movie, I think it will be the last time that I will play her," said the legendary actress, while adding, “And I'm not saying something like, 'Oh, because I die!' It's nothing to do with that. I'm talking about emotionally what they have constructed. I think it will be a spectacular way to end this trilogy." Halloween Ends marks the seventh time she has played the iconic character, however, the 2018 reboot ignored all the sequels following the original film, meaning Laurie Strode was no longer Michael Myers' sister. While little is known about Halloween Ends, Curtis asserted that Halloween Kills is a masterpiece and will explore the themes of trauma, community fear, and power.

Fans last saw Michael Myers escape from Laurie’s basement safe room. Despite being wounded and trapped inside a burning house, the post-credits scene indicated that Michael Myers was still alive. 2018’s Halloween rejuvenated the forty-year franchise, as it received positive reviews from critics and grossed $255 million worldwide on a $10 million budget. The long-awaited Kills wrapped filming back in 2019 and is slated to premiere at the Venice International Film Festival this September.

Curtis recently finished filming Eli Roth’s highly-anticipated action comedy Borderlands. Based on the video game series of the same name, the Borderlands film follows Lilith (Cate Blanchett), an outlaw who attempts to find a missing girl on her home planet of Pandora. The large cast includes Kevin Hart, Ariana Greenblatt, Jack Black, and Édgar Ramírez. Curtis plays Dr. Patricia Tannis, an archeologist who specializes in Eridian artifacts and technology.

Created by Gearbox Software, the first-person shooter game was published in 2009. The Borderlands franchise currently consists of four games and has surpassed 66 million units sold worldwide. The franchise, which primarily takes place on the planet Pandora, has received praise for its sense of humor and multiplayer co-op gameplay.

Halloween Kills is scheduled to be released on October 15th, 2021, and Halloween Ends is scheduled for October 14th, 2022.
