With only a few hours left of 2019, Half-Life's G-Man (and by extension, the character's long-time voice actor Mike Shapiro) have stepped in to wish all fans on Twitter a happy and very creepy New Year. Shapiro posted a short video to his personal Twitter account containing a monologue from G-Man, complete with all the unnerving vocal tics that fans will remember.

It's been over 12 years since Shapiro has delivered lines for G-Man, and with the new franchise title Half-Life: Alyx finally on its way and slated for 2020, this New Years' Eve message has perfect timing. Half-Life: Alyx will arrive in March, and with it, the haunting presence of G-Man.

If nothing else, Shapiro's mysterious message definitely hints at future encounters with G-Man in the next Half-Life game, warning all who listen to the video to "prepare for consequences" in the new year. Shapiro falls right back into G-Man's strange manner of speaking and stilted tones while referencing Auld Lang Syne, the old Scottish song traditionally sung on New Years'. "Should old acquaintance be forgot? Well, after so much…time, some things can prove difficult to remember. See you in the New Year, and do prepare for consequences, hm?" Listen below to the entire foreboding message from G-Man--and note that Shapiro has also changed his profile image to that of G-Man, just for that extra piece of dramatic effect.

G-Man is also prominently featured in the Half-Life: Alyx trailer, leading some fans to speculate that more will be revealed about the relationship between Alyx and G-Man come the next game since they met at least once in Half-Life 2. Then again, a lot of G-Man's gravitas comes from the fact that players know so little about him, so perhaps Half-Life: Alyx's writers will hold on to that information a little longer. Half-Life: Alyx will be set in between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2, following Alyx and her father Eli Vance as they defend the planet from Combine forces by forming a resistance.

Regardless of what players may or may not learn about G-Man's origins in Half-Life: Alyx, this message from him after so many years of radio silence should only make fans all the more eager for the game's release. The only thing players might need to worry about it grabbing a VR headset--Valve was sold out in early December following the game's announcement.

Half-Life: Alyx releases in March 2020 for PC VR.
