Sony recently detailed what PlayStation 5 gamers can expect from its PlayStation VR2 headset, which is set to deliver the next-generation of virtual reality gaming to PlayStation fans. Sony didn't reveal much in terms of games that are in development for PlayStation VR2, but a new rumor suggests that one of the most critically-acclaimed virtual reality game made to date could very well be coming to the platform.
On Twitter, user Benji-Sales tweeted speculation about Sony and Valve working out a deal to bring Half-Life: Alyx to PlayStation VR2, citing the game's high quality and how such an arrangement would likely benefit everyone involved. It would undoubtedly boost Half-Life: Alyx's sales and ensure it reaches a wider audience, while it would also be a big incentive for console gamers to invest in a PlayStation VR2 headset.
Reputable Xbox leaker Shpeshal_Nick then chimed in and said "From what I've been told, they have," though clarified that he's not entirely sure when the critically-acclaimed Half-Life: Alyx would be making its way to PlayStation VR2. Shpeshal_Nick has accurately leaked gaming news in the past, which gives him more credibility than other online leakers, but fans should still take the information with a grain of salt until an official announcement comes.
Half-Life: Alyx coming to PlayStation VR2 would make a lot of sense. PlayStation VR2 is advanced enough to really do the game justice, and not only that, but Valve has a long history of bringing its games to consoles. The other Half-Life games are available to play on consoles, as are the Left 4 Dead and Portal games, so if anything it would be more surprising if Half-Life: Alyx didn't come to PS5 and PlayStation VR2 at some point down the line.
After all, it's not like Valve has forced people to own one of its VR headsets to play Half-Life: Alyx. While it still needs to be played through Steam, it's entirely possible for PC gamers to play Half-Life: Alyx using an Oculus headset. Valve clearly isn't relying on the game's exclusivity to push sales for its VR headsets, and so one has to imagine that making the software available to as many VR gamers as possible is a more important goal for the company.
As it stands, there's not a lot that fans know about PlayStation VR2's software lineup, but more information should come to light in the months ahead. Sony still has a lot of questions to answer about the new headset, like what exactly it looks like, how much it costs, and if PS VR2 will be backward compatible, so here's hoping answers come sooner rather than later.
