While we're not too big on fan-made trailers here at Game Rant, occasionally a few cross our desks that catch our attention. In some cases that's because of the trailer's quality or in others it's because of the associated game. Here's a situation where both our true.

The above fan-made trailer is for one of the biggest games/non-games there is: Half-Life 3. It's a title that many hope is in development at this moment, but one that only exists in our imaginations.

As a result, the ravenous Half-Life fan base has given us all sorts of imaginative creations, from detailed fan art to clever trailers. In other words, these fan-made trailers are a dime-a-dozen, but the one included above is worth highlighting for a few reasons.

For starters, the quality of the animation is much higher than we are used to seeing in fan-made trailers. In most cases, fan-made trailers are actually composed of re-purposed footage from older games, but this one boasts some very impressive animation work. Just a quick look at the facial animation on the G-Man is enough to tell us that the folks behind this Half-Life 3 trailer are professionals.

Secondly, the trailer proposes an interesting arctic environment for Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance's next adventure. We know that the duo will likely head off in search of the Aperture Science vessel Borealis whenever the story picks back up with them, and prior game details have confirmed the missing ship is somewhere in the Arctic, so it's entirely possible that the real Half-Life 3 might bear a striking resemblance to this trailer.

All in all the fan-made trailer is an impressive creation, one that should further remind gamers how badly they want to play Half-Life 3. At this point, though, it's almost as if the fans have created their own storylines and adventures for Gordon Freeman, to the point that most of the legwork has already been done for Valve. All they need to do is scour the various Half-Life wikis and put together the greatest game we've ever played. Sounds simple enough don't you think?

What do you think of this Half-Life 3 fan-made trailer? Do you think an arctic environment would be a good setting for this next game?
