Supermassive Games created one of 2020's most popular titles with the roguelite Hades. Its mix of fast-paced and fluid combat, novel approach to roguelike storytelling, and endearing cast of characters helped propel the indie title into competition with AAA releases like Ghost of Tsushima for multiple "Game of the Year" nods. Today saw the announcement that Hades will be joining the already impressive lineup of games coming to Xbox Game Pass this year. Microsoft adding the indie game to its on-demand lineup is another big win for the already successful game.

Now that Hades is coming to Game Pass later this year, even more players will be able to get a chance to try the game for themselves. This is great news for the game itself, as it will almost undoubtedly pick up new fans. It's also great for the people who'll now get a chance to experience Hades for themselves. Xbox Game Pass already has in impressive lineup of titles, and Hades will make an excellent addition to that collection.

Hades Coming to Xbox Game Pass is Great News

Hades has already been incredibly successful, and received multiple Game of the Year awards. The game's popularity was explosive and received near-immediate praise from critics and fans alike. The roguelite model can be divisive for some players, but Hades has still managed to garner mass appeal for its gameplay and innovative approach to storytelling. Getting the game into the hands of more players is undoubtedly a good thing, and will likely translate to another wave of commercial success as players pick up the game.

Bringing Hades to more players will almost assuredly only be a positive, as the game can scratch a lot of itches as players wait for news on Diablo 4 and other ARPGs that share gameplay similarities with Hades. That being said, the game definitely has its own legs to stand on without comparison to other titles. So much of its success came from Hades' approach to storytelling. More players getting to experience its unique take on Greek mythology and storytelling at large means it inevitably will gain more fans. Hades has some very active online communities, and after the game launches on Game Pass, it's likely that this community will only grow.

A bigger fan base means more interest in the game, and could even potentially lead to Supergiant breaking from its own tradition and releasing DLC (or even a sequel) to Hades eventually. This is obviously conjecture however, but it definitely bears mentioning that the game's massive popularity could sway the developer into creating more Hades content down the line. Hades coming to Xbox Game Pass is great for fans, but it's also another big win for one of the most successful indie titles ever made.

Hades is available now for PC and Switch, and comes to PS4, PS5, and Xbox Game Pass on August 13, 2021.
