During this pandemic situation, many people are used to delays being added to the release of their favorite video games. Unfortunately Hades fans are also facing an announced delay, as the hack-and-slash created by Supergiant is getting a Switch port, but the cross-saves feature is coming later than some people might've hoped.

Hades is an isometric roguelike where players play Hades' own son, Zagreus, attempting to escape from the land of the dead. Hades was announced for the Epic Game Store in 2018 back when Epic's digital games market was still new, and was an anticipated release from the studio that produced other Bastion and Transistor, two other games with a high emphasis on visual style. As an Epic Games Store release, Hades was only playable on the PC, but the Indie World Showcase revealed the game would be coming to Switch.

Part of the deal with the game coming to Switch was a cross-save system that will allow Early Access players to keep their progress from their PC games, which was pretty exciting for people who'd put in a lot of time to their PC saves. However, during launch prep, Supergiant discovered some major issues as the devs tested the cross-save feature. Sure, Hades is a very replayable game, but plenty of players have sunk dozens of hours into the game and just don't want to start over from scratch.

The reasons behind these issues are unknown, as Supergiant's Tweet seemed to be intentionally vague, probably to let the devs sort out all the issues without any public scrutiny. As one comment pointed out on the thread, however, it's odd that Supergiant Games is delaying the release when it hasn't even given a specific date for players to mark on their characters.

The official Twitter responded to the comment pointing out that the initial announcement implied the feature would be available at launch, and they wanted to make it clear that whenever in fall 2020 the Hades Switch port drops, cross-saving won't be available with it (at least not right away). It responded to another comment asking if people will have to overwrite Switch data with separate games and then transfer the data when the feature drops, which Supergiant says it would like to avoid, and is trying to sort out this difficulty when it potentially appears.

At least the Switch port isn't being postponed, although it is disappointing that everyone getting the Switch version of the game when it launches will have to create a new save. Hopefully, the issues resolve themselves quickly, and players can transfer their hard-earned PC data over to Switch.

Hades is available now for PC and is coming to Nintendo Switch Fall 2020.
