One of the biggest surprises of 2020 has been the success of the roguelike action game Hades. Hades has been available in Early Access for almost two years, but its final release came in September. To say its reception has been positive would be an understatement, as Hades has already received multiple nominations from The Game Awards 2020. Developer Supergiant Games has a lot to be thankful for, so the team decided to share a special Thanksgiving message to its fans.

In a message on Twitter, Supergiant wishes those celebrating Thanksgiving a "safe and happy holiday." However, Supergiant also did something special for its fans. "The Head Chef of the House of  Hades got wind of something called a 'Thanksgiving' today," reads the first half of the message. The Head Chef is an NPC in Hades that exchanges prizes for fish that the player has caught.

In-game, the Head Chef is stuck in a perpetual animation loop of chopping onions. For Thanksgiving, the Head Chef is breaking the cycle, as a trio of Supergiant artists and animators joined forces to create a special gif for Thanksgiving. The gif features the Head Chef receiving a giant onion, which they chop into a turkey shape with a humongous knife. The Head Chef may be cursed to cut onions forever, but at least they can have some fun with it.

The community's love for Hades is based in-part on its characters, and even the Head Chef is counted among those whom the game wouldn't be the same without. However, there are quite a few Hades fans who said they might want to get the Head Chef's sword for their next run. Maybe Supergiant Games can consider put together some DLC for the Christmas season.

Hades is available now on PC and Nintendo Switch.
