Hades has blown up over recent months, with the roguelike indie game receiving heavy amounts of praise for its standout art style, engrossing storyline, and challenging gameplay. However, one player has added to that challenge, making use of a dance pad to stream the most intriguing Hades completion on Twitch.
Apart from being one of the most gorgeous games of 2020, Hades boasts the addictive gameplay loop seen in other roguelikes. Forcing players to grind out small upgrades to improve their builds after each boss wall that is hit, the path to mastering the mechanics of Hades is long and rewarding. While Twitch streamer PeekingBoo hit a few walls of the walls many players hit in Hades, the fact that he was playing on a Dance Dance Revolution pad makes the stopped progression even more understandable.
The first wall hit by PeekingPoo was the Bone Hydra. The challenging boss has felled many Hades players in the past, and while there are some Bone Hydra strategies out there, killing the beast it is still no easy feat. Before his successful run, PeekingBoo says that the Bone Hydra is “the furthest I have gotten with a controller as well,” which makes the eventual victory with a Dance Dance Revolution pad even more impressive. With the first big challenge complete, the player continued their adventure.
Beating a boss as imposing as the Bone Hydra sees PeekingBoo instantly join the ranks of the other skilled gamers who have scored impressive victories with dance pads. Twitch Streamer Luality is known for using the odd “controller” to pull off impressive feats in the Souls series, while SarahKey managed to beat Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts using only a dance pad. However, PeekingBoo did not stop with his triumph over the Bone Hydra, as he went on to eventually challenge Hades himself in the game’s final boss fight.
The streamer will likely remain one of the only people to challenge the God of the Underworld to a dance-off, as beating one of 2020’s best video game villains took everything PeekingBoo had in him. After a few close calls, however, the streamer was triumphant letting out an exhausted “yay.” While the fight left PeekingBoo extremely sweaty and completely drained, the workout is quite the sight to behold, and any player looking for the motivation to push through Hades should look to this victory for some inspiration.
With players already pondering ideas for Supergiant Games’ Hades successor, hopefully it will not be too long before another incredible roguelike arrives. When it does come, PeekingBoo will have a whole new set of challenges to face using his dance pad, with the player able to take down even more roguelike bosses as if he was playing a rhythm game.
