The second region in Hades sees players traversing the burning fields of Asphodel. While the enemies in this area aren't that challenging on their own, the environmental hazards are enough to give even experienced players pause. Those that manage to get to the end of this area will have to face the Bone Hydra boss battle.

Each run in Hades consists of four separate regions. Players start in Tartarus and eventually make their way up to the surface. Before they can reach the end, though, they have to fight a boss at the end of each region. The remains of the Lernaean Hydra stand before Zagreus and Elysium.

The Bone Hydra provides different challenges than Hades' first boss, Meg, as although it is stationary it has a lot of ranged attacks. It will also summon minions to help it fight and grows several more heads throughout the course of the battle.

The fight takes place in three separate phases, but the core loop of the battle is the same. Players must first deal 1/3 of the Bone Hydra's health in damage, after which point it will become invulnerable and summon more heads. When the Hydra is at 66% health, it will summon three heads, and when reduced to 33% health, it will summon six heads. These heads must be destroyed in order to deal damage to the Bone Hydra again, but they are dangerous in their own right as well.

The Bone Hydra has three main attacks, a lunge, volley, and ground slam. The lunge sees the Hydra lurch forward to try and hit Zagreus, and is easily avoided with horizontal dashes. The volley can pose more of a challenge, as the Hydra fires several homing projectiles towards the player. Hiding behind one of the pillars on the map is a good way to avoid this attack. Finally, if the player gets too close, it will slam its head on the ground, dealing damage in an AoE. Each of the summoned heads also has access to the lunge and volley attacks, so things can get a bit hectic when all six heads are sending projectiles towards the player.

The best thing to do is to focus damage on the main head until it summons its reinforcements. At this point, players should target one head at a time, taking them out methodically so as to reduce the amount of chaos on the field. This can be a bit challenging for beginner Hades players at first, but with the right build the support heads go down easy enough.
