With Supergiant's bombastic game Hades being hailed and basically iconified as one of the most recognizable roguelike games, fans couldn't be more excited for its sequel to come out. The game has been selling extremely well since it left early access and new people are constantly discovering it and subsequently falling in love. In Hades, players take the role of Zagreus, Prince of the Underworld, as he desperately tries to escape it and see the outside world while also learning about himself, his family, and the people around him.

To help in his escape, Zagreus uses a variety of different tools, from Keepsake items to Boons granted by the gods and even magical weapons. To be more specific, there are weapons called Infernal Arms (in-game) that Zagreus can select before heading out into Tartarus. They all have unique names and functions, but it basically boils down to a sword, a shield, a bow, a machine gun, a spear, and some punching gauntlets. These 'Infernal Arms' all have unique playstyles as well as a variety of different 'Aspects' to them (who knows what Mellinoe might use), and there are certain Boons Zagreus can look for and pick out during a run that works best for each weapon and Aspect.

Updated July 19th, 2023 by Jacob Buchalter: With Hades 2 in development, players are eagerly awaiting any news or updates about this game at all times. It's very similar to the situation with Hollow Knight fans and Silksong, though hopefully, it won't be too similar in how sparingly fans get those updates. In any case, for anyone going back to replay Hades, returning to the game to finish it before Hades 2, or just for any new players overall, here are some overall Boon recommendations for each of Zagreus' weapons. These weapons, or Infernal Arms as they're called in-game, all have different 'variations' that add twists and unique passives to switch up their gameplay loops. So, let's not only go over the best Olympic Pantheon of Gods offering Boons to pick for each of the Infernal Arms but also the best options for each Aspect.

Combat in Hades is broken down into three main actions, the Attack, the Special, and the Cast, while Boons typically follow the naming convention of Strike = Attack, Flourish = Special, Shot = Cast, Flare = AoE around Zagreus when using Cast, and Dash = Dash.

Stygius - The Stygian Blade

Hades - PNG Of Zagreus With The Stygian Blade Overlaid On Blurred Image Of Paige Carters Models Of The Swords With The Aspect Icons Overlaid On Top

Zagreus' main weapon is up first and it's known as Stygius, the Stygian Blade. It's what players are forced to use in the tutorial run of this isometric roguelike icon, and it's about as basic as it gets. This Infernal Blade has a medium attack range, medium damage, and the most basic strikes in Hades.

Each recommended Boon section below takes into account what typically works best for optimal/overpowered runs in general, most builds work in this game as long as the player actually plays the game well, but these are just the 'best' recommendations on average.

Overall, across all Aspects, players will typically want to use Boons that capitalize on boosting the raw damage of the Special and the attack speed since it's very useful for inflicting statuses like Jolted, Chill, or Hangover. This of course differs from Aspect to Aspect, but the Special is almost universally beneficial to build into for every variation of the blade.

Aspect of Zagreus

The 'cover weapon' of Hades, the Aspect of Zagreus is typically built around its Special and Dash Strike.

Crystal Beam, True Shot, Divine Dash, Urge to Kill, Support Fire, Greater Haste, Quick Recovery, Greater Evasion, Greatest Reflex

Poseidon Boons that push foes away

The standard Attack combo is just too slow compared to other Aspects, but the Special + Dash Attack combo is much faster, so most players end up picking Boons that buff the Special, Dash Strike, or increase attack speed.

Aspect of Nemesis

The namesake weapon of one of the most memorable characters in the Hades 2 trailer. Very similar to Zagreus Aspect, but much more crit-focused.

Deadly Strike, Deadly Flourish, True Shot, Crystal Beam, Hunter Dash, Divine Dash, Pressure Points, Hide Breaker, Clean Kill, Hunter Instinct, Hunter's Mark, Urge to Kill, Support Fire, Hyper Sprint, Greater Haste, Quick Recovery, Greater Evasion, Greatest Reflex, Hydraulic Might

Poseidon Boons that push foes away.

Very similar builds to Aspect of Zagreus, but Artemis Boons are much more highly sought after. Any Boon that has the word 'critical' in it is usually a must-have.

Aspect of Poseidon

Very different Aspect in terms of playstyle. Builds typically focus on buffing the Cast as much as possible as well as the Special, as the intended loop is to Cast and then Special enemies to knock the Cast out.

True Shot, Flurry Cast, Exit Wounds, Blown Kiss, Urge to Kill, Support Fire, Fully Loaded, Hunter's Mark, Snow Burst, Greater Haste, Greatest Reflex, Quick Reload, Auto Reload, Greater Recall, Bad News

Boons that radically change the way Cast works, such as Crush Shot or Slicing Shot.

When built correctly, this is one of the most overpowered Aspects of the game. Exit Wounds is a must-have since the passive of this Aspect causes Casts to dislodge very often. Very centered around Boons that buff Cast or Special damage overall.

'Hidden' Aspect of Arthur

A much slower and 'tankier' Aspect centered around slow, high-damage swings and higher max HP.

Divine Strike, Divine Flourish, Phalanx Shot, Heartbreak Strike, Deadly Strike, Positive Outlook, Greatest Reflex, Quick Recovery, Nourished Soul, Any Doom, Weak, or Jolted Boons

Boons that slow Zagreus down even more or incentivize using his Special more often.

'Slowest' overall playstyle of the four Blade Aspects, but hardest hitting per swing. Deflect Boons and Damage Negation Boons go a long way with this Aspect.

Aegis - The Shield of Chaos

Hades - PNG Of Zagreus With The Chaos Shield Photoshopped Onto Him Overlaid On Blurred Image Of Paige Carters Models Of The Shields With The Aspect Icons Overlaid On Top

Aegis, the Shield of Chaos is the safest (and most commonly used) weapon in Hades on average, which makes sense considering it's a shield. Its moveset allows players to Bull Rush, which is where Zagreus charges up and blasts toward enemies while also blocking incoming damage from the front. It essentially means that Zag can defend while attacking, and it's the only weapon that straight-up has a block mechanic.

Most of the Aspects of this weapon build around the Bull Rush mechanic, but there are one or two that change things up a bit. But, on average, Boons that build up attack speed, charge speed, and overall Attack seem to do well for the Aegis.

What To Avoid

Boon Recommendation Reasoning

Aspect of Zagreus

Like most of the other 'Zagreus Aspects', it's pretty basic. Does extra damage on Dash Strike and Attack, so that's what most of its builds focus on

Heartbreak Strike, Drunken Strike, Frost Strike, Swift Strike, Blade Dash, Divine Dash, Mistral Dash, Drunken Dash, Urge to Kill, Battle Rage, Arctic Blast, Numbing Sensation, Hydraulic Might, Swift Strike, Hyper Sprint, Quick Recovery, Greatest Reflex

Too many Boons centered around the Cast or Special

Players will be hitting enemies very quickly and very often with the Dash Strike using this Aspect, so it's a great choice for builds centering around high-stack status effects like Hangover or Chill.

Aspect of Chaos

One of the Aspects that went through the most changes between the early access and full release. The 'shotgun' spread of Shields thrown with the Special after a Bull Rush is unique, if not a bit difficult to get the hang of. Most builds focus on the Special.

Heartbreak Flourish, Curse of Pain, Divine Flourish, Swift Flourish, Empty Inside, Sweet Surrender, Urge to Kill, Battle Rage, Dire Misfortune, Impending Doom, Hunter Dash, Support Fire, Blinding Flash, Drunken Dash, Hydraulic Might,

Focusing too much on buffing Attack with Boons

Builds for this Aspect are typically split between Aphrodite's Heartbreak Flourish or Ares' Curse of Pain as the main catalyst for the build. a very versatile Aspect that works built around most of the Flourish-type Boons overall.

Aspect of Zeus

A very 'technical' Aspect due to the Blitz Disc Special it has. But, because Zagreus can still attack while Blitz Disc is out, this Aspect builds around the Special and the Attack pretty equally.

Heartbreak Strike, Curse of Agony, Divine Strike, Swift Strike, Deadly Flourish, Frost Flourish, Drunken Flourish, Thunder Flourish, Swift Flourish, Dying Lament, Sweet Surrender, Urge to Kill, Battle Rage, Dire Misfortune, Impending Doom, Pressure Points, Support First, Arctic Blast, Hydraulic Might, Greater Haste

Anything that makes the Blitz Disc take longer to 'return'

Looks for a lot of Boons similar to the Aspect of Zagreus, but with more of a focus on Special-buffing Boons. Put high-stack status effects on the Blitz Disc and low-stack status effects on the Attack.

'Hidden' Aspect of Beowulf

A shield Aspect that Zagreus literally 'loads' his Casts into, the Aspect of Beowulf is another absurdly broken Aspect when built correctly. Very dependant on Cast damage-buffing Boons.

Divine Strike, Swift Strike, Crush Shot, Slicing Shot, Phalanx Shot, Trippy Shot, Electric Shot Passion Flare, Slicing Flare, Phalanx Flare, Trippy Flare, Flood Flare, Thunder Flare, Sweet Surrender, Urge to Kill, Fully Loaded, Blinding Flash, Ravenous Will, Snow Burst, High Tolerance, Static Discharge, Flurry Cast, Auto Reload, Greater Recall, Bad News

Demeter's Crystal Beam and Ares' Slicing Shot

Boon choices for this Aspect are also pretty versatile compared to the playstyle of the Aspect. Anything that mentions buffing Cast Speed, Cast Damage, or mentions the word 'Cast' at all is likely worth grabbing.

Exagryph - The Adamant Rail

Hades - PNG Of Zagreus Looking Down At The Exagryph Adamant Rail Model Overlaid On Blurred Image Of Paige Carters Models Of The Rails With The Aspect Icons Overlaid On Top

Now it's time for Exagryph, the Adamant Rail, the literal gun that Zagreus carries around through the Underworld. Exagryph has even lower starting damage than the bow or shield and actually forces players to manually reload quite often, but its attack speed is the fastest in the game, and its Special (for most Aspects) is a giant AoE bomb.

Overall, Exagryph is the best weapon to build stacking effects on because of its attack speed, while the Special is amazing for single-stack spread, though it does slightly differ from Aspect to Aspect.

Name

Aspect Overview

Recommendations

What To Avoid

Boon Recommendation Reasoning

Aspect of Zagreus

The 'default' Exagryph, which oddly makes it the least versatile and least useful option. Can still be built around its infinite ammo with the Spread Fire Daedalus Upgrade, however.

Lightning Strike, Divine Strike, Drunken Strike, Deadly Strike, Frost Strike, Tempest Strike, Swift Strike, Curse of Agony, Urge to Kill, Dire Misfortune, Pressure Points, Clean Kill, Support Fire, Blinding Flash, Crystal Beam, Arctic Blast, Winter Harvest, Peer Pressure, Numbing Sensation, Hydraulic Might, Razor Shoals, Breaking Wave, Wave Pounding, High Voltage, Double Strike, Splitting Bolt, Greater Haste, Quick Recovery, Greatest Reflex

Getting too many Daedalus Hammers, as a lot of its Upgrades negates the benefits of this Aspect.

Because the only truly 'powerful' build thats unique to this Aspect relies on a Daedalus Upgrade, most of its reccomended Boons also apply to the other Exagryph Aspects as well.

Aspect of Eris

Once players internalize the mechanical 'loop' of this Aspect, it'll quickly become one of their favorite options. Centered around standing in the Special's 'blast' to give Zagreus a global damage buff to all his sources of damage.

Curse of Agony, Deadly Strike, Divine Strike, Frost Strike, Drunken Strike, Lightning Strike, Swift Strike, Curse of Pain, Divine Flourish, Tempest Flourish, Swift Flourish, Urge to Kill, Battle Rage, Dire Misfortune, Pressure Points, Clean Kill, Support Fire, Blinding Flash, Arctic Blast, Winter Harvest, Bad Influence, Peer Pressure, Tidal Dash, Hydraulic Might, High Voltage, Double Strike, Splitting Bolt, Greater Haste, Greatest Reflex, Quick Recovery

Don't bother playing this Aspect if it seems awkward to constantly stay in the blast zone of Zagreus' Special.

The percentage damage buff that Zag gets from standing in the Special's blast zone is honestly absurd as it is a full global damage increase. Because of this, even things like the damage from Zeus' Lightning or from Dionysus' Hangover that weren't built for percentage increase buffs suddenly become so much stronger.

Aspect of Hestia

A very finely focused Aspect (made for a minor Greek Goddess) entirely centered on the Empowered Shot from manually reloading. Not a very versatile Aspect, but one that's easy to build and satisfying to use.

Curse of Agony, Deadly Strike, Frost Strike, Drunken Strike, Tempest Flourish, Slicing Shot, True Shot, Crystal Beam, Flood Shot, Electric Shot, Slicing Flare, Trippy Flare, Flood Flare, Thunder Flare, Flurry Cast, Urge to Kill, Dire Misfortune, Impending Doom, Pressure Points, Clean Kill, Ravenous Kill, Arctic Blast, Winter Harvest, Glacial Glare, Peer Pressure, High Tolerance, Storm Lightning, High Voltage, Double Strike, Splitting Bolt, Quick Recovery, Auto Reload, Greater Recall.

Anything that increases magazine size, increases reload speed, and/or most Boons that aren't directly benefitting the Attack.

While Hestia's Aspect is pretty 'one-note' (as are mentions of this NPC in-game) when it comes to its builds, the damage potential of the Empowered Shot is honestly staggering. So, players will want to look for anything and everything that makes that first shot of each clip as strong as possible.

'Hidden' Aspect of Lucifer

The Aspect that turns the Exagryph from a heavy machine gun into a laser cannon, the Aspect of Lucifer benefits the most from builds centered around its absurd hit rate and attack speed. An Aspect that would also work if it returned in Hades' sequel.

Curse of Agony, Frost Strike, Drunken Strike, Lightning Strike, Deadly Strike, Swift Strike, Curse of Pain, Divine Flourish, Frost Flourish, Drunken Flourish, Tempest Flourish, Thunder Flourish, Swift Flourish, Dire Misfortune, Urge to Kill, Impending Doom, Pressure Points, Support Fire, Clean Kill, Hunter's Mark, Crystal Beam, Ravenous Will, Arctic Blast, Tripply Flare, High Tolerance, Hydraulic Might, Storm Lightning, Double Strike, Splitting Bolt, Flurry Cast, Quick Recovery, Greater Recall

Any Boons that trade damage for attack speed. One of the only Aspects that doesn't want the trio of Athena, Artemis, and Aphrodite Strike Boons.

The beam fired from Lucifier's Aspect hits enemies so rapidly for such little damage per hit that almost any build based around one of the high-stack limit status effects (such as Hangover, Frost, or Doom with Dire Misfortune) will output some ridiculous damage numbers.

Varatha - The Eternal Spear

Hades - PNG Of Zagreus Using The Varatha Spear Overlaid On Blurred Image Of Paige Carters Models Of The Spears With The Aspect Icons Overlaid On Top

Much like the Stygian Blade, the Eternal Spear known as Varatha is a speedy weapon that's meant to steadily poke enemies down. But, rather than doing an AoE burst like the Stygian Blade, the spear has a Special where Zag throws it at enemies.

It's probably the weapon people find to be their least favorite on average (though players love all the weapon choices in this indie icon overall), but that doesn't at all mean it's underpowered. The Varatha builds very similarly to Stygius, but with less emphasis on the Special and more on the Attack (except for one particular Aspect).

Name

Aspect Overview

What To Avoid

Boon Recommendation Reasoning

Aspect of Zagreus

At first, this Aspect might seem like all the other 'Zagreus Aspects' in that it's almost too simplistic. However, this Varatha Aspect and its builds differ heavily based on the Daedalus Hammer Upgrades the player is offered, especially Flurry Jab.

Divine Strike, Lightning Strike, Swift Strike, Curse of Pain, Heartbreak Flourish, Divine Flourish, Tempest Flourish, Swift Flourish, Trippy Flare, Flood Flare, Hunter Dash, Divine Dash, Drunken Dash, Dying Lament, Sweet Surrender, Urge to Kill, Battle Rage, Impending Doom, Frozen Touch, Peer Pressure, High Tolerance, Black Out, Hydraulic Might, Razor Shoals, Wave Pounding, Storm Lightning, High Voltage, Double Strike, Static Discharge, Splitting Bolt, Quick Recovery

Any Special Boons that grant it high-stack status effects like Chill or Hangover.

This Aspect is much more heavily dependent on the Daedalus Upgrades than the Boon choices, but the innate Special buffs from the Aspect means it should probably be built around its Special.

Aspect of Achilles

The Aspect of Achilles might look incredibly similar to the Aspect of Zagreus at first, but it's actually another absurdly overpowered Aspect. The Raging Rush ability and Post-Rush damage buff, if properly maintained, constantly output some shockingly high amounts of damage.

Crush Shot, True Shot, Phalanx Shot, Flood Shot, Electric Shot, Flurry Cast, Passion Flare, Hunter's Flare, Phalanx Flare, Icy Flare, Trippy Flare, Flood Flare, Thunder Flare, Swift Flourish, Hunter Dash, Exit Wounds, Fully Loaded, Holy Shield, Ravenous Will, Snow Burst, High Tolerance, Typhoon's Fury, Razor Shoals, Breaking Wave, Second Wave, Storm Lightning, Double Strike, Static Discharge, Splitting Bolt, Quick Reload, Auto Reload, Greater Recall, Bad News

Anything that slows attack or movement speed, since players want to take full advantage of the Post-Rush damage buff duration.

To be frank, this Aspect is an improvement on the Aspect of Zagreus in just about every way. As long as players are picking Boons that give them the best immediate DPS options once the Post-Rush buff is active, they should be golden.

Aspect of Hades

Anyone who really struggles with the Hades fight at the end of a run is probably very familiar with his Punishing Sweep. With this Aspect, Zagreus can now use it too, and they'll want to buff their Special as often as possible to make Punishing Sweep truly Punishing.

Heartbreak Strike, Deadly Strike, Divine Strike, Tempest Strike, Swift Strike, True Shot, Trippy Shot, Electric Shot, Crystal Beam, Phalanx Flare, Flood Flare, Divine Dash, Sweet Surrender, Urge to Kill, Battle Rage, Deadly Strike, Pressure Points, Clean Kill, Support Fire, Glacial Glare, Winter Harvest, High Tolerance, Typhoon's Fury, Razor Shoals, Breaking Wave, Wave Pounding, Second Wave, Storm Lightning, Double Strike, Splitting Bolt, Quick Recovery

Investing too heavily into Cast and not enough into the Punishing Sweep Special.

This next Aspect takes a while to find a good 'flow' while using it. But, once players do, they'll be able to see the potential this Aspect has since Punishing Sweep gives such a huge Attack and Special buff every time it hits.

'Hidden' Aspect of Guan Yu

Despite how renowned Guan Yu is, this is probably the least beloved 'Hidden' Aspect of them all, primarily due to the Max HP reduction it has by default. Still, there are ways to make it relatively useful if a player builds around both the Special and Dash Attack.

Curse of Pain, Divine Strike, Deadly Flourish, Heartbreak Flourish, Swift Flourish, Trippy Flare, Divine Dash, Hunter Dash, Bronze Skin, Nourished Soul, Wave of Despair, Different League, Sweet Surrender, Curse of Vengeance, Urge to Kill, Support Fire, Holy Shield, Divine Protection, Premium Vintage, After Party, Positive Outlook, High Tolerance, Heaven's Vengeance, Lightning Reflexes, Quick Recovery, Greater Evasion, Hyper Sprint, Greatest Reflex

Anything that incentivizes staying close to enemies for too long, it's too risky with this Aspect.

Basically, anything that punishes enemies for hitting Zagreus, makes him take less damage, or keeps him out of harms way is good on this build, since it's such a high-risk high-reward choice.

Coronacht - The Heart Seeking Bow

Hades - PNG Of Zagreus Aiming The Rama Bow At The Camera Overlaid On Blurred Image Of Paige Carters Models Of The Coronacht Aspects With The Aspect Icons Overlaid On Top

Coronacht, the Heart-Seeking Bow, is the weapon players might expect to like the least in Hades, but veterans and speedrunners will quickly tell them it's quite the opposite. Early on, the bow has some of the weakest damage, but the safety it gives Zag by letting him attack from afar shouldn't be underestimated, and the innate passives of some of the Aspects are amazing.

While the shotgun spread of arrows that the basic-version Special displays might seem weak at first, with the right Boons, hammer, and Aspect choice, it can really dish out some absurd damage very quickly.

Name

Aspect Overview

Recommendations

What To Avoid

Boon Recommendation Reasoning

Aspect of Zagreus

Simple, yet effective is probably the best way to describe this first Bow Aspect. While it doesn't have any of the unique gimmicks the other Coronacht Aspects have, the innate crit chance actually has a pretty noticeable impact on its many build options during repeated playthroughs.

Heartbreak Strike, Curse of Agony, Deadly Strike, Lightning Strike, Swift Strike, Heartbreak Flourish, Curse of Pain, Deadly Flourish, Frost Flourish, Thunder Flourish, Swift Flourish, True Shot, Hunter Dash, Dying Lament, Sweet Surrender, Broken Resolve, Urge to Kill, Battle Rage, Dire Misfortune, Clean Kill, Hunter's Mark, Support Fire, Hydraulic Might, Storm Lightning, Double Strike, Static Discharge, Splitting Bolt

Weak and Doom-type Boons as it's not really worth it over higher-stack status effects.

Artemis Boons work incredibly well with this aspect to stack on top of its innate crit chance. Otherwise, just build for raw damage on the Attack and utility on the Special.

Aspect of Chiron

Before upgrading Chiron's Aspect to max level using Titan's Blood, this Aspect feels really weak. After reaching max level, it's a lot more fun to use, though it trades speed for overall safety. Heavily built around its Special with Attack being a close second.

Swift Strike, Heartbreak Flourish, Curse of Pain, Deadly Flourish, Divine Flourish, Frost Flourish, Drunken Flourish, Thunder Flourish, Swift Flourish, Hunter Dash, Dire Misfortune, Impending Doom, Urge to Kill, Battle Rage, Pressure Points, Clean Kill, Support Fire, Arctic Blast, Winter Harvest, Peer Pressure, Hydraulic Might, Storm Lightning, High Voltage, Double Strike, Static Discharge, Splitting Bolt, Quick Recovery

Anything that isn't directly benefitting or buffing the Special.

The unique variant of the Volley Fire Special on this Aspect works incredibly well for building up status effects quickly, so most players put low-stack limit status effects on their Attack and high-stack limit ones on their Special.

Aspect of Hera

Any of these Aspects where Zagreus loads Casts, such as the Aspect of Beowulf, are going to be overpowered, and the Aspect of Hera is no different. It's like Beowulf, but is also safe to use from range. And again, like Beowulf, it's almost always built around Cast damage and Cast refresh speed.

Heartbreak Strike, Deadly Strike, Drunken Strike, Curse of Agony, Swift Strike, True Shot, Crush Shot, Trippy Shot, Flood Shot, Flurry Cast, Passion Flare, Hunter's Flare, Trippy Flare, Sweet Surrender, Blown Kiss, Urge to Kill, Battle Rage, Dire Misfortune, Pressure Points, Exit Wounds, Clean Kill, Hunter's Mark, Support Fire, Fully Loaded, Ravenous Will, Black Out, Quick Reload, Auto Reload, Greater Recall, Bad News

Investing too heavily, or much at all, into the Special.

Anything and everything that buffs the Cast or the overall damage of the Attack on this Aspect should be grabbed as soon as it's offered. The higher the Cast damage, the more burst damage Zagreus can do. Also look for anything that increases the amount of Casts as well.

'Hidden' Aspect of Rama

Out of all the 'Hidden' Aspects, Rama's is probably the most unique. Basically, by hitting an enemy with the Special (called Celestial Sharanga), Zagreus can then attack any other enemy in the room, and the enemy hit with the Special will still take a percentage of that damage done. Because of this, this Aspect is very dependent on Status Effects and Attack-boosting Boons.

Heartbreak Strike, Curse of Agony, Deadly Strike, Divine Strike, Double Strike, Swift Strike, Frost Flourish, Curse of Pain, Drunken Flourish, Thunder Flourish, Swift Flourish, Dying Lament, Sweet Surrender, Urge to Kill, Battle Rage, Dire Misfortune, Pressure Points, Clean Kill, Support Fire, Arctic Blast, Winter Harvest, Peer Pressure, Hydraulic Might, Storm Lightning, High Voltage, Double Strike, Static Discharge, Splitting Bolt

Prioritizing Special damage over status effect Boons.

Use the Special to build up status effects and build the Attack for Raw damage. The higher the damage one enemy takes, the more damage the enemies with the Celestial Sharanga debuff will take as well.

Malphon - The Twin Fists

Hades - PNG Of Zagreus Holding Up The Twin Fists Of Malphon Overlaid On Blurred Image Of Paige Carters Models Of The Gauntlet Aspects With The Aspect Icons Overlaid On Top

And lastly, let's talk about the Twin Fists of Malphon, the weapon for those who like things fast-paced and want to get up close and personal in Hades. These gauntlets let Zag unleash a flurry of lightning-fast punches by holding down Attack, a devastating uppercut Special, and it's also the only Infernal Arm with a Dash-Special.

Typical builds for most of the Malphon Aspects share a lot of similarities with the Exagryph builds, as both weapons heavily rely on their attack speed more than they do on their default damage. Also, this is one of the rare Infernal Arms where a Duo Boon+Weapon combo is highly recommended, as the Duo Athena/Ares Boon called Merciful End almost constantly triggers when set up properly, due to every Malphon Aspect going for more hits for less damage over fewer hits for more damage.

Aspect Overview

Recommendations

What To Avoid

Boon Recommendation Reasoning

Aspect of Zagreus

Every one of the Zagreus Aspects feels like it can't get any simpler, but this time it's really true. All this Aspect does is introduce players to the Twin Fists and give them a bit of Dodge Chance, so builds for this Aspect can are pretty versatile.

Curse of Agony, Deadly Strike, Divine Strike, Frost Strike, Drunken Strike, Frost Strike, Drunken Strike, Lightning Strike, Double Strike, Swift Strike, Curse of Pain, Tempest Flourish, Swift Flourish, True Shot, Hunter Dash, Dying Lament, Different League, Sweet Surrender, Urge to Kill, Battle Rage, Dire Misfortune, Pressure Points, Clean Kill, Hunter's Mark, Support Fire, Frozen Touch, Arctic Blast, Winter Harvest, Bad Influence, Peer Pressure, Hydraulic Might, Razor Shoals, Wave Pounding, Storm Lightning, High Voltage, Double Strike, Static Discharge, Splitting Bolt, Hyper Sprint, Greater Evasion, Greatest Reflex, Second Wind

A pretty open-ended Aspect, but don't build too heavily into Cast, as it's not the focus of this weapon type.

This Aspect is primarily used by players just getting used to the Malphon Twin Fists, and can be built any number of ways. But, like most Fist builds, use Boons that capitalize on its fast Attack Speed.

Aspect of Talos

Very similar to the Zagreus Aspect, but comes with the Magnetic Cutter Special that pulls enemies in and gives them an extra 50 percent damage taken debuff from Attacks and Casts for 6 seconds, which has some real combo potential. Has some pretty basic builds around Attack and Special, but can integrate some nice Cast Boons as well.

Curse of Agony, Deadly Strike, Divine Strike, Frost Strike, Drunken Strike, Frost Strike, Drunken Strike, Lightning Strike, Double Strike, Swift Strike, Heartbreak Flourish, Curse of Pain, Swift Flourish, Trippy Shot, Flood Shot, Trippy Flare, Flood Flare, Hunter Dash, Dying Lament, Sweet Surrender, Urge to Kill, Battle Rage, Dire Misfortune, Pressure Points, Clean Kill, Hunter's Mark, Support Fire, Frozen Touch, Arctic Blast, Winter Harvest, High Tolerance, Black Out, Bad Influence, Peer Pressure, Hydraulic Might, Storm Lightning, High Voltage, Double Strike, Static Discharge, Splitting Bolt, Hyper Sprint, Greater Evasion, Greatest Reflex, Second Wind

Building too heavily into one attack type (Attack, Special, Cast). This Aspect benefits from relatively equal buffs from Boons all around.

Magnetic Cutter equalizes the importance of the Attack and Special, and having a good ranged option with the Cast helps too. So, this build splits its Boon preferences between all three attack types pretty equally.

Aspect of Demeter

This Aspect is another one that takes a lot of Upgrades to feel useful and takes a lot of getting used to, but once players do get acclimated to it, it's a ton of fun. Because players want to get to 12 Attack hits as frequently as possible, builds for this Aspect almost always center on Attack Speed and Special Damage.

Curse of Agony, Deadly Strike, Divine Strike, Frost Strike, Drunken Strike, Frost Strike, Drunken Strike, Lightning Strike, Double Strike, Swift Strike, Heartbreak Flourish, Curse of Pain, Deadly Flourish, Divine Flourish, Frost Flourish, Drunken Flourish, Thunder Flourish, Swift Flourish, Trippy Shot, Flood Shot, Trippy Flare, Flood Flare, Hunter Dash, Dying Lament, Sweet Surrender, Urge to Kill, Battle Rage, Dire Misfortune, Impending Doom, Pressure Points, Clean Kill, Hunter's Mark, Support Fire, Frozen Touch, Arctic Blast, Winter Harvest, High Tolerance, Black Out, Bad Influence, Peer Pressure, Storm Lightning, High Voltage, Double Strike, Static Discharge, Splitting Bolt, Hyper Sprint, Greater Evasion, Greatest Reflex, Second Wind

Trying to build entirely around the 12-hit Rising Cutter mechanic despite not getting the right Daedalus Hammer options or Boon choices.

Players want to use the enhanced Rising Cutter as often as possible. Additionally, when they do use it, they'll want a build that outputs as much burst damage and status build-up as possible.

'Hidden' Aspect of Gilgamesh

Very difficult to use for players who have already become accustomed to any of the other Malphon Aspect gameplay loops. A less safe option than other Aspects, it attacks slower and leaves Zagreus open more often. But, in exchange, players get extra dashes, some powerful swings, and the Maim status effect that essentially functions as a second 'Doom' effect.

Deadly Strike, Divine Strike, Curse of Agony, Swift Strike, Heartbreak Flourish, Curse of Pain, Divine Flourish, Tempest Flourish, Swift Flourish, Trippy Flare, Passion Dash, Blade Dash, Hunter Dash, Drunken Dash, Sweet Surrender, Urge to Kill, Battle Rage, Engulfing Vortex, Dire Misfortune, Impending Doom, Vicious Cycle, Pressure Points, Clean Kill, Holy Shield, Frozen Touch, Positive Outlook, Bad Influence, Numbing Sensation, Peer Pressure, High Tolerance, Black Out, Hydraulic Might, Wave Pounding, Lightning Reflexes, Static Discharge, Hyper Sprint, Greater Haste, Quick Recovery, Greater Evasion, Greatest Reflex, Rush Delivery

Committing too heavily into a sequence of Attacks, be ready to Dash Cancel whenever necessary, even if it cancels mid-attack swing.

A much slower-paced Malphon playstyle requires Boons that capitalize on Main, the higher damage-per-hit, and gives Zagreus the ability to easily get out of any risky situations.

Hades is available now on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
