CD Projekt Red has announced a new expansion pack for its free-to-play Gwent: The Witcher Card Game called Way of the Witcher which is out December 8. Way Of Witcher focuses on the origin of the Witchers, and their creator, Alzur, who is known to be one of the greatest sorcerers in the continent.

According to its description, "In a world plagued by horrors and monstrosities humanity desperately needed a new type of weapon to turn back the tide. Created by ingenious Alzur, witchers — professional monster slayers of exceptional strength, speed, and agility were tasked to end the threat once and for all. Organized into different schools they honed their craft and passed their knowledge onto novices in training. Some of them were destined to become the legendary heroes and protectors of humanity. Others — the very thing they were supposed to fight…"

Originally a mini-game in 2015's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the free-to-play, spinoff, Gwent: The Witcher Card game released back in 2018. Since then the game has received a multitude of expansions, including this year's Master Mirror, based on one of the most iconic The Witcher 3 characters, Gaunter O' Dimm.

The Way Of Witcher adds 70 new cards that are themed around the different Witcher schools. 10 of these will be specific to the game's existing six factions whereas 10 of these will be neutral cards that can be used across all factions.

The Way of Witcher will also introduce several new mechanics that includes: Adrenaline, which will grant players with "fresh synergies" to take advantage of on the battlefield. It's worth noting that Adrenaline can be triggered only once the players have a specific number of Gwent cards or less left to play with.

While the Way of Witcher is free on all platforms,  players can also pre-order one of the three timed packs. Alzur's Pre-Order Pack which costs $49.99, comes with 25 Premium Way of the Witcher kegs, Alzur's Laboratory Board, and Alzur's Premium Neutral Card.  Extraordinary Pre-Order Pack that costs $14.99, comes with Way of the Witcher shapeshifting cardback, and 10-level boost in Alzur's journey. Whereas, the Way of the Witcher Combo Offer, which is the combination of Alzur and Extraordinary pack costs $54.99.

Gwent: The Witcher Card Game is now available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, as well as iOS and Android Devices.
