Namco Bandai has created a plethora of games based on the famous Gundam franchise, and with each game, the battle elements have remained the same in each installment. It has always been customary in Gundam games for players to pilot one mobile suit in battle and face off against either one or several opponents, but that now changes with the newest Gundam game titled, Gundam Memories: Memories of Battle.

Memories of Battle is the first game in the long-running Gundam series that allows players to pilot three mobile suits in battle. Players who may be asking themselves how piloting three mobile suits in battle will work, Namco Bandai explains that before the player enters combat, he or she chooses the three mobile suits they wish to take into battle. During battle, while piloting one of the three mobile suits, players can switch between the other two at any time. Being able to adapt to any battle situation can takes on a whole new meaning with this new gameplay element.

The game's mission mode will feature original missions as well as levels based on various Gundam anime, including Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn and Gundam Seed Destiny. Mobile suits will be split up into three categories: shooter type, close-range, and speed type. So far the following Gundam series will see some of their mobile suits featured in the game:

  • Mobile Suit Gundam
  • Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam
  • Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack
  • After War Gundam X
  • Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz
  • Gundam Seed Destiny
  • Gundam 00
  • Gundam 00: Awakening of the Trailblazer
  • Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn

Namco Bandai could have a serious hit on their hands if players take well to this new and exciting gameplay element, but only until more details are revealed about Gundam Memories: Memories of Battle, will players hopefully be able to determine if switching between mobile suits in battle adds to or takes away from the intense and cinematic fights that are usually seen in the Gundam franchise.

Impressed with Namco Bandai's attempt at innovation in the Gundam series? What other gameplay elements should be added to future Gundam games?
