Rock Band: Queen

After scouring the Swedish interwebs, a rumor regarding a new Guitar Hero title has surfaced from a pretty reliable source: Brian May from the legendary rock group Queen. Little is known so far, but from what he candidly let slip in the interview, there will be a  Guitar Hero: Queen title releasing sometime next year.

There have been rumors of other band-centric Guitar Hero games (like the Red Hot Chili Peppers) recently. Activision is definitely not known for stretching out the time between GH releases, so even though Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock is nearing release, both of these artist specific games might be in the works as well.

The only other detail included in the interview is a bit cryptic, and has me wondering whether the Google Translate function is working at 100%.  From Brian May himself:

"We have invented a way to allow users to attend games during our concerts, but I can not say more than that now. It's a secret."

See what I mean? If he had said 'we have invented a way to replicate our concerts through the games', then that would be a little easier to digest. I personally don't know a single person who would want to play video games at a live music show unless they didn't want to be there in the first place.

Another thing that comes to mind when considering Queen is, of course, the fact that Freddie Mercury was their lead vocalist. Mercury was known for his flamboyance and showmanship, but was also known for being able to sing in a ridiculous four octave range! Try getting your friends to tackle that obstacle after a few beers and see where that gets you (hint: it gets you earplugs).

Fact? Fiction? Or PR stunt by a rock legend to get his name back in circulation? I guess we'll have to wait until next year to find out. I just hope it's not early onset dementia, because I would love to get myself a copy of Guitar Hero: Queen (while still wishing it was Rock Band instead).
