Guild Wars 2 is gearing up for the release of its next expansion pack, End of Dragons, in just a couple of months. Among the new areas and features shown off by ArenaNet, it showcased gameplay footage of the Siege Turtle, a brand new mount, and the first to seat two players at once.

Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons, the third full expansion for ArenaNet’s MMORPG, takes players to the eastern-themed continent of Cantha–an area last visited in the original Guild Wars’ first expansion pack, Factions. During the course of the expansion’s story, players will get the opportunity to raise a baby Siege Turtle and train it into a fully-fledged, all-terrain battle mount.

The Siege Turtle itself seems to be built for just about any challenge in End of Dragons. The massive critter has jump jets, which enable it to reach extraordinary heights, only to crash down on enemies with great force. The mount can also walk across the bottom of bodies of water, making it the second amphibious mount. The mount can also carry one extra passenger who appears to be in control of the mount’s twin jade canons, turning the mount into a devastating weapons platform.

Siege Turtles have a long history that spans all the way back to Guild Wars 1. During Guild Wars: Factions, the Luxons, one of the two factions players could align themselves with, used giant turtles to pull their caravans across the petrified jade sea, and equipped them with canons for defense. Two-hundred and fifty in-game years later, the Luxons are gone, but their Siege Turtles live on–and with some serious technological upgrades to help them navigate any of the beautiful regions of Guild Wars 2.

Players were overjoyed when Guild Wars 2 first announced the Siege Turtle mount earlier this year, but seeing it in action has them even more excited. A two-seater mount has been a long-time coming in Guild Wars 2. ArenaNet had previously tried to make one back during the Path of Fire expansion, but had to scrap the idea due to logistical complications. Though it took ArenaNet a few years to figure out how to make it work, players have finally been rewarded for their patience.

Guild Wars 2 is available now on PC, with End of Dragons releasing in February 2022.
