Among Guild Wars 2’s recent roadmap of content after End of Dragons was the Super Adventure Festival - a zany event featuring a Minecraft-esque dungeon zone full of games and wacky cosmetics. However, an unexpected glitch with an item from the event transformed charr characters who wore it into the spitting image of a classic meme.

The Super Adventure Festival was originally April Fools’ Day prank from the early days of Guild Wars 2. The wacky event was so popular that ArenaNet brought it back a few years later as an annual festival in late March and early April.

This year’s Super Adventure Festival included a number of new cosmetic options for players to unlock, including the futuristic Reality Rig armor. However, due to a glitch, when characters of the cat-like charr race equipped the light armor version of the Reality Rig Mk2 armor, their models would be unnaturally stretched to comical lengths. The internet was quickly filled with hilarious videos, images, and memes of the Longcharr.

Unfortunately, the Longcharr was, in fact, an unintended glitch. ArenaNet quickly announced it was working on a fix for the bug. Within 24 hours of the glitch’s discovery, the rigging of the Reality Rig Mk2 was fixed, and Longcharr was no more. While players don’t know exactly what caused the glitch, it was likely because the charr are the least-humanoid of the races in Guild Wars 2, which could have easily caused the graphical glitch.

Guild Wars 2 players lamented the loss of the short-lived Longcharr. Players erected tributes and compilations dedicated to the goofy glitch almost as soon as it vanished. Many hope Guild Wars 2 discovered what caused the glitch so ArenaNet could bring it back as a cosmetic transformation tonic or toy, like the Bobblehead Laboratory.

Hilariously, this is not the first place where cat memes have invaded Guild Wars 2. An April Fools’ Day joke from several years ago saw giant cats across Tyria, and a developer’s gaffe during a tour of New Kaineng in End of Dragons caused him to accidentally kill an invincible kitten critter. To counterbalance the influx of cat memes, Guild Wars 2 recently added a pack of adorable dogs in the hub city of Lion’s Arch, which will be present until April 7th.

It seems the future of Guild Wars 2 will continue to be a reign of cats and dogs. Though the Longcharr may no longer be in the game, it will be fondly remembered as one of the most hilarious of Guild Wars 2 glitches.
