It’s no doubt that 2011 has been and is continuing to be a big year for th world of online gaming, both in good ways and bad. Not only has it seen the release of a new handheld platform, a high-profile hacking of the PSN, and a multitude of heavy-hitting titles, there is still more than half of the year left and more highly-anticipated games on the horizon. One of those games is NCSoft’s upcoming Competitive Online RPG, Guild Wars 2.
While there is still no sold release date, Guild Wars 2 is slowly shaping up to be quite the impressive game, offering a slightly new take on a genre that isn’t hurting for properties.
From beautiful environments like the city of Lion’s Arch to diverse races like the charr, norn and humans, there is a lot to get excited about, and with positive hands-on reactions coming in, gamers have been eagerly awaiting any sort of news regarding when they will be able to get their hands on the game.
In a conference call with investors chief financial officer of NCSoft, Jaeho Lee stated that the next few years are looking very bright for the company.
Aside from some promising releases, Lee revealed that players won’t need to wait until Guild Wars 2 is released to try it out, as a beta for the game is quickly appraoching:
“Starting from year 2012, we believe substantial growth will be driven by new blockbuster titles like [Blade & Soul] and Guild Wars 2.
“Guild Wars 2 will go into beta testing stage in the second half of this year.”
It may still be vague and could mean any number of things, but just the thought that by the end of the year gamers will get a chance to play the game – even if only in beta form – is news that should help carry fans for a few more months before more big news is unveiled.
With E3 2011 just on the horizon, there’s a good chance that something will be announced then, whether it’s a release date for retail or the beta. Either way, the game is sure to make waves and is continuing to build momentum despite being so far from release.
