Little is known about what may occur in BioWare’s newest Mass Effect game. Its announcement left a lot to the imagination, though it did seemingly confirm Liara T’Soni’s importance and presence and an inarguable connection to the original trilogy as a result.Since this untitled Mass Effect sequel’s announcement, rumors and speculation have been relatively quiet. The reveal of an official poster for the new Mass Effect allegedly contains surprises for fans to dig into, with many fans perceiving a Geth in the crater’s environmental focal point. It will likely be awhile before anything else of meaningful impact will be shared about content from the game itself, but BioWare has recently revealed a new name being brought aboard to work on the untitled Mass Effect installment that should excite fans about its narrative potential.RELATED: Mass Effect's Ashley Williams Actress Would Love to Return to SeriesBioWare Project Director Michael Gamble, who is also team lead on the upcoming Mass Effect game, has announced Mary DeMarle is “joining the Mass Effect team” as a Senior Narrative Director. DeMarle most recently won the 2022 Game Award for Best Narrative for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy while she worked as an Executive Narrative Director at Eidos-Montreal. Before her work on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, DeMarle was also a Narrative Director, Lead Writer, and Narrative Designer on Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

It was announced recently that DeMarle was added to BioWare's ranks and this role reveal should mean a lot to fans since her achievements and career are exceptional. It will be interesting to see what she is able to bring to the new Mass Effect game in the role of a Senior Narrative Director. Her work on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is a particularly intriguing achievement and could translate well to Mass Effect since the former had already begged comparison to the latter.

Many players associated the Guardians’ camaraderie and space exploration with Mass Effect's story beats. Meanwhile, others perceived similar combat maneuvers with how fans control a sole protagonist who is then able to command other squad members who demonstrate unique abilities. Mass Effect is known for its liberal expression of player choice in dialogue, even if its Paragon and Renegade choices are decidedly binary. These choices may have startling and profound effects that ripple throughout each game in the Mass Effect trilogy.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy lacks choices that weigh this significantly on players, and its choices rarely lead to an event or situation that the player’s alternative option would have led to anyway. Regardless of this, DeMarle’s work on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy may have won her the role as Senior Narrative Director due to her accolades and how the game’s narrative was received, especially with how adaptable some of its beats may be to a band of NPC companions who dabble in interstellar travel.

An untitled Mass Effect sequel is in development.
